Overflow Monthly April 2017

April: A Month of Creativity and Dreaming

April has been a busy month for South Brandon Worship Center. We have seen some firsts, such as The Overflow EP release, and some new takes on other events and projects we have done, such as the Easter musical and the newly released Life in the Overflow Devotional. This month we have had the privilege and joy of seeing just how much talent we have in our church family and what a beautiful experience it has been.

We started our resurrection weekend with our worship filled Good Friday service. As we took time to reflect on what Jesus did for us, we were so blessed to be able to express our gratitude, our humility, and our awe in worship. We were also able to celebrate as we witnessed the overflow of Jesus in the lives of our church members with the release of The Overflow worship EP.

Only two days later, we were again able to witness the incredible talent of our church during the "Jesus Christ of Nazareth" musical. Using music from the popular musical "Hamilton", rewritten by our own Noah Thomas (with Chris Thomas and Janel and Carys Stogdill), as well as songs of worship and other rewritten music, the story of Jesus' death and resurrection were brought to life through song and storytelling.

Still to come in the month of April, The Overflow School of Ministry and Worship will be sending a group of youth from Ruth Spiegel's vocal class to Orlando to compete in a Fine Arts Festival. Her students will have the opportunity to perform for an audience and receive constructive criticism for their performances, enabling them to grow further in their giftings. You'll have the opportunity to hear them perform at the Overflow School Semester Celebration in June.

Though April was a month packed with exciting activities and celebrations, there is still so much more to come for our church as we continue to grow and seek the Lord. We are so thankful for what Jesus is doing at South Brandon Worship Center and we hope you will join us in seeing his kingdom come. Keep reading to learn more about upcoming events and other ministry highlights.

Missions Update

April 2017

The SBWC missions team continues to look forward to our June missions trip with great excitement. There are now 12 of us going to provide a VBS experience for over 100 children. We are so thrilled for what the Holy Spirit will allow us to do and learn there.

The Lord has been very faithful by allowing our fundraising efforts to be blessed. We were so grateful for the turnout at our last Pancake Breakfast. We still have a way to go, however, so watch for our next Pancake Breakfast and Cook Out at the BFN in May. We really appreciate everyone's generosity. We also covet your prayers as we continue to prepare for this trip.

You can also support us on GoFundMe, our church website (designated to "AOJ"), or by buying a t-shirt.

With Blessings, Pastor Ken Ackerman

This month in Overflow

This month was a short, but busy month for the Overflow. Despite missing two Sunday nights due to the monthly leadership meeting and Easter, there was still much to be excited about.

After a long wait, The Overflow EP is now officially available for purchase on iTunes or the Overflow Collaborative Resources page. There aren't possibly enough words to say thank you to all those who played a part, but without these people this wouldn't be possible.

Chuck Ammons: Song writing, vocals, piano.

Brian Jones: Song writing, guitars, percussion, vocals, recording, and so much more.

Chris Thomas: Background vocals.

Rich Tiemann: Bass.

Shane Suarez: Ambient Guitar

Jeff Tubaugh: Keys.

Josh Harper: Drums.

Kaitland Conley: Vocals, album design.

Stephen Schuetz: Guitar.

Be sure to grab a copy and see what incredible things the Lord is doing right here in our own church. While you are grabbing a copy of the CD, also be sure to grab a copy of the Life in the Overflow Devotional, which was also released this month.

For the next 50 days our church will be going through this devotional in small groups and really digging into what it means to hear the Lord and figure out how to abide in his presence. If you need help finding a small group, find a ministry leader and ask how you can get involved.

Ministry Updates

Poets and Saints

This month our college and career group, Poets and Saints, took a hands-on ministry approach and helped out with some yard work to a couple who were in need of it. Yard work may not be the most anticipated weekend activity, but for all who showed up, it was a good time and a great way to serve and show honor.

If you would like to join Poets and Saints, they meet Thursday nights at 8 PM at Pastor Chuck's home. For more information about the Poets and Saints group, text Pastor Chuck Ammons at 813-317-4893.

Rock City

Rock City is in the midst of a new series as summer approaches: Pool Party! With fun, water themed messages, kids are learning things like how to have faith when it's hard and how to surrender their fears to Jesus. This month's series will be followed by a "Campfire Stories" series, where kids will learn a number of bible stories as they huddle around the "campfire".

Also coming soon is the M.A.D. Night Showcase, May 21st. You won't want to miss this showcase of songs and drama, entirely performed by our kindergarten through 5th grade kids.

Life in the Overflow Devotional

All of our groups have begun the "Life in the Overflow Devotional", a 50 day devotional written by our very own, Pastors Chuck Ammons, Chris Thomas, and Cindy Ackerman. We so encourage you to find a group to join for this journey!
