WHY TOBACCO FREE?
Our mission calls us to improve the health of the individuals and communities we serve. We believe that we have a responsibility to take a leadership role on this major health issue and promote a healthier environment by becoming a tobacco-free campus.
WHAT IF I'M NOT READY?
This policy does not require individuals to quit smoking or using smokeless tobacco products; use just needs to be off YKHC property.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN BETWEEN NOW AND THEN?
We will hold several employee forums to help employees prepare for the transition. We will share information to keep our patients and staff updated on the transition. We will offer tobacco cessation resources to patients or staff who want to quit.
HOW WILL THIS CHANGE AFFECT ME?
As a health care organization, we are committed to the health and safety of our employees, patients, physicians, volunteers and visitors.
- Smoking or smokeless tobacco use by all patients, staff, and visitors will be prohibited on YKHC property.
- Patients and visitors found using tobacco will be asked to stop and offered information about resources to quit tobacco.
- Employees interested in quitting tobacco during this transition will be offered Nicotine Replacement Therapies and cessation counseling free of charge for one year. Employees found using tobacco on YKHC property will be subject to disciplinary procedures by their managers.
- All smoke shacks and ash cans will be removed from YKHC property. Tobacco use in vehicles on YKHC property is also prohibited.
