  • Parents were Karol Wojtyla and Emilia Kaczorowskra
  • Had one brother named Edmund
  • Received First Holy Communion at the age of 9
  • Was confirmed at the age of 18
  • Went to Marcin Wadawice High School
  • Attended Clandestine Seminary of Cracow

Becoming Pope

  • Ordained on November 1, 1946
  • Received his doctorate in Theology in 1948
  • Became bishop of Ombi in 1958
  • Was made Cardinal in 1967
  • Became pope in 1978
  • Sadly,he died April 2, 2005

Accomplishments

  • First non-Italian pope in over 400 years
  • Visited more than 100 countries around the world
  • Forgave his attacker who shot him twice in 1981
  • Was declared a saint on July, 5, 2013

Death

  • Died on April 2, 2005
  • He died in Vatican City
  • His funeral was held on April 8, 2005
