TEXAS DAILY In depth into Reconstruction

THE BEGGINING OF RECONSTRUCTION

Reconstruction is Americas effort to rebuild the nation and free slaves. Reconstruction is happening because our nation is in ruins and divided in two. Our state is destroyed, we don't have a government, and every form of communication is destroyed. It's time to rebuild our nation and our state!

LINCOLN VS JOHNSON

President lincolns plan for reconstruction was simple, ten percent of a states voters had to pledge their loyalty to the Union and that state is then accepted back into the Union. Unfortunately president Lincoln was assassinated before his plan could be implemented. For more information on the assassination go to page 3. Andrew Johnsons plan for reconstruction is loosely based off of Lincoln's but different in several ways. Johnson's plan is making it much harder to re enter the Union

SLAVERY ENDS IN TEXAS

Yesterday a large Union force commanded by General Gordon Granger arrived in Texas to free all slaves. So far it has been very successful, slaves are reacting to the news by celebrating and reuniting with their family's. This historic date is now know as Juneteenth. Also a new organization know as the Freedman Bureau has started helping freemen by giving them food, water, shelter, and education.

THE NEW GOVERNOR

President Johnson has appointed a new governor for our state. Andrew J Hamilton, he is a unionist and a republican. What this means for our state? That's for you to decide. A convention recently met to discuss a new constitution for Texas. The convention was made mostly of ex-confederate supporters and democrats. In my eyes this convention isn't going to get anything done without a non bias group of people.
