Welcome to Year 5 2017

Holidays - Happy Easter - Well an unplanned end to Term 1. Some loose ends will be tidied up when we return on Tuesday, 18 April. Have a restful, enjoyable break from the routine of school.

Walk to Make a Difference and Cross Country

Week 10 - Monday, 27 March - Friday, 31 March - This week is a busy week with the timetable just about unworkable so a few changes have been made. Firstly, the girls have no homework this week as we didn't think we would have the time to correct their work. Monday - 8:45am liturgy on the oval for Walk to Make a Difference. The Yr 5s will walk the oval at 9:30am and again at 1:50pm as their contribution to the cause. Gymnastics lesson this week (11:40am) will be a display of the skills the girls have acquired this term. Tuesday - Cross Country. First race is at 9:15am, last race at 10:35am. Yr 5 race at 10:15am. Open classroom will still be offered at 8am before we leave for cross country. Friday - Peacemaker Awards at assembly. The Passion Story is at various stations in the school grounds at 11:45am and a Farewell munch 'n crunch party for Charlotte T who is moving south these holidays.

Week 9 - Monday, 20 March - Friday, 24 March - On Tuesday we recognise Harmony Day/ Anti-Bullying Day by wearing a splash of orange. Thursday morning is our annual Cross Country. Students are being assessed at gymnastics this week. All Project House constructions have to be in the classroom by Friday.

Week 8 - Monday, 13 March - Friday, 17 March - Thursday - Tuckshop is offering a sausage sizzle lunch for $2.50 and there is a school disco in the evening. On Friday students may wear a splash of green to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Students should now be building their house for their project. Most of the activities on the Term Grid Homework tasks should be nearing completion.

Our Excursion to Downfall Creek

Week 7 - Monday, 6 March - Friday, 10 March -Tuesday, Excursion to Downfall Creek. Remember to bring a 'Litter-less' morning tea. Thank you to Eliza's mother, Zoe's Mother, Alessia's mother and Heidi's mother for joining us on this outing. Wednesday is International Woman's Day - Mass at 9am. Guest Speaker, Laura Fenlon, 10am. The students are working their way through their Science/ Geography/ Technology Project and are at the stage where they should be constructing their house. The students may need some advice and some re-purposed material for this activity.

Age Swimming Champion - Sienna Counsel. 2017 Swimming Carnival

Week 6 - Monday, 27 February - Friday, 3 March - Special Swimming Awards Assembly on Tuesday at 2:20pm. Ash Wednesday Mass at 9am. Lent begins. Project Compassion focus during lent will include Caritas mission stories and fundraising activities. By now students should have completed at least three activities on their TERM Homework Grid. Work has begun in class on the Science/Geography and Technology Project.

Week 5 - 20 February - 24 February - Tuesday is Reconciliation for 5F and Swimming Carnival on Friday. There will be a special assembly on Tuesday, 28 February (after the Swimming Carnival) to present awards. Thank you for coming in this week and speaking with us about your child. It is important to share information that assists with your child's learning. 2017 is shaping up to be an exciting and fruitful year for us all.

Art, Reading and Geography lessons

Week 4 - 13 February - 17 February - Monday - Gymnastics and 5F library borrowing. Tuesday is 5O Reconciliation and Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's Day -Thursday is PE and on Friday Yr 5O library borrowing. Also this week there are Parent/Teacher Interviews. We look forward to chatting with you.

Tuesday, 7 Feb Parent information night to discuss classroom learning. 6:00 - 6:35 and 6:40 - 7:15pm (Two sessions). 7th, 8th, 9th February student Boot Camp for computers. Hello from Mrs Cathie Bennedick and Mrs Anne Conlon. We are excited to be walking the learning path with the 55 girls in Yr 5, your daughters, as they learn and grow this year. We offer a special warm welcome to the three new girls and their families who have joined the group this year. We look forward to meeting up with you all at Parent Information Night.
