IM Girls Basketball 6th Grade

Is your 6th grade daughter interested in playing basketball? The first day of girls’ intramural basketball is TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1st at 7:15 AM in the Smith Gym. No prior playing experience is necessary. The coaches, Mrs. Brennan and Mrs. Glab, will hand out all paperwork at the first practice. Your 6th grader only needs to bring herself (and a friend, if possible!), a good attitude, and clothes that she doesn’t mind getting sweaty in. We will meet 10 times throughout the month of October (just about every Tuesday and Friday) before school at 7:15 AM. Please e-mail Mrs. Brennan at kbrennan@troy.k12.mi.us if you have any questions 😊

Relay for Life Information

We are excited as we are gearing up for the Fall 2019 Relay For Life season. This year, we will be having a few meeting meetings on Tuesday’s starting October 1st from 3-3:45 pm in room 21. We are looking for new members to join and be a part of this awesome club. We are looking for hardworking, creative, caring, respectful, responsible, and spirited students who would like to make a difference in our community. The Relay for Life club is participating in the community 6-hour walk on October 19 and raising funds for the American Cancer Society. This will be our 15th year having a team and in 14 years we have raised just a bit over $135,000.

We have a very important slogan that we have adopted over the years, “Defending Our Own”. Here, at Smith many people have had family and friends affected by cancer. At Smith, we have also had way too many teachers hear the words “you have cancer”. I am sad to say that we have lost some good people over the last few years, which just motivates us more to continue the find to end this ugly disease.

This year the Relay team is working along with student council and our U-Knighted Committee to make this year our BEST YEAR yet. I love that different school groups can come together for one common cause.

We hope that you can join us on October 1st in room 21 and be a part of the club but if you cannot we would appreciate your support in many of the activities we have planned this upcoming month. Please listen to the announcements to hear about all of the good stuff we have in store. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Casko in room 21 or Mrs. Trice in room 14.

**The Troy Relay for Life will be held here at Smith Middle School on Saturday, October 19 from 12-6 PM. We will be asking for volunteers to walk for our team and of course make donations at the following website below. Feel free to join our online team and start to fundraise for the American Cancer Society. Together we can make a big difference!

Message from our Food Service

The Troy Schools Food Service Department, which is contracted by Chartwells, is seeking friendly people willing to fill various vacancies within the Food Service Department that are responsible for providing lunches to the students of the Troy School District. Not to worry if you haven’t had previous experience, as “on the job” training will be available!

Depending on the school, the hours would primarily be during the middle of the day, but will vary depending on the vacancy. And you would be earning some extra money while your students are in school! Come join our Food Service Staff by calling 248-823-5089, or please email us at ngervais@troy.k12.mi.us.

I look forward to hearing from you!
