THE MADISON SCENE WINTER 2020

MESSAGE FROM GOVERNING BOARD PRESIDENT SCOTT HOLCOMB

Madison Students, Families, Staff and Community:

As 2020 becomes 2021, the Madison Governing Board thanks you for your support, thoughtful participation, insights, fl exibility, determination, and feedback. We take all of the input (positive and negative) into account to make the best decisions for the continued success of the District, students and staff. I have always been very proud to serve Madison, but I have never been more proud than I am today because of all of you.

I am also inspired. We have an unknown journey ahead, but we have a path forward. You have shown the adaptability and dedication to overcome this crisis. We are all committed to providing a safe, supportive, and innovative environment for our kids, staff and community to thrive. Together – we are Madison!

– Scott Holcomb, Governing Board President

MEET NEW GOVERNING BOARD MEMBER-ELECT KAREN GRESHAM

Hello Madison community! I am excited to get to work as your newest Governing Board member. For those who don’t know me, I have three children who attended Madison Heights and now Madison No. 1. I’ve lived in the Madison District for about 20 years now and was born and raised in Phoenix. I have a degree in accounting and speak Spanish.

Before running for the Governing Board I’ve been helping in classrooms or PTOs, fundraising for charitable organizations, and training for Ultramarathons/Ironman triathlons. I look forward to getting to know even more of you in the years to come!

– Karen Gresham, Governing Board Member-Elect

MADISON DISTRICT TAX RATE DECLINES

For the fifth straight year, Madison Elementary School District’s tax rate declined. Madison has the lowest primary, secondary, and total tax rate when compared to surrounding elementary school districts.

A low tax rate demonstrates that Madison is an efficient steward of taxpayer funds (dollars) and is committed to maintaining or decreasing the tax rate. With the support of the community, Madison is able to: offer signature programs, curricular resources and technology for students, recruit and retain staff, provide support services, implement safety and security measures, keep buildings maintained and when necessary replace major systems that have outlived their useful lives with more energy efficient models as well as purchase school buses.

We are excited to announce that the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Madison Elementary School District. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting!

Award of Excellence for Website Redesign

Each year, the Arizona School Public Relations Association (ASPRA) recognizes standards of excellence in school public relations through its ASPRA*tions Awards. Winning entries demonstrate that sound public relations principles (research, analysis, communication and evaluation), creativity and a commitment to improving communications were used in pursuit of organizational goals. On Friday, November 20, the Madison School District was recognized by ASPRA for receiving an Award of Excellence for website redesign! There were over 180 entries across several categories from Districts throughout the State.

TAX CREDIT DONATION

Support us as we strive to provide extraordinary learning for local students. Donate to Madison schools and receive a tax credit of up to $400 from the State of Arizona.

How it works: For every dollar, you donate, the amount you owe on your annual Arizona tax filing will be directly reduced up to the maximums. If you do not owe taxes, the amount you donate may be carried forward for up to five years to offset future tax liabilities. Every dollar supports extracurricular activities for Madison students!
