STAR WARS By: Steven Asidilla

George Lucas: Creator of Star Wars

Star Wars is Sci-Fi opera movie franchise created by George Lucas and enjoyed by fans worldwide.

The idea of Star Wars came from George Lucas in 1971 after the success of American Graffiti. In 1973 he would write a short summary called the "Journal of the Whills", which tells the adventures of Mace Windy and his companion Chuiee. This story would be rewritten four more times before becoming Star Wars.

Originally Luke Skywalker was going to be a female in on of the earlier script drafts named Starkiller because Lucas wanted his story to have a strong female character. The idea was scraped and Princess Leia was introduced. Many of Lucas's ideas would be revisited and reinvented into different concepts, especially for "The sequel trilogy.

May 25, 1977-Chinese Theater Star Wars Premiere

George Lucas' Star Wars rejected from just about movie studio before finally being picked up by 20th Century Fox and given a $7.5 million dollar budget. The production of Star Wars had many issues from harsh weather conditions to Carrie Fisher having to not wear a bra, eventually going over budget to $11 million dollars. The movie was screened at less than 40 theaters and was predicted to be a box-office disaster, we all know how THAT turned out. Star Wars premiered in theaters on May 25, 1977, and the rest they say... is history.

Ever since that moment in cinema history, the contents of Star Wars have been embedded into pop culture. From the space battles...

To the spectacular unique worlds like Tatooine, Endor, and Felucia

Don't forget the starship that have become almost as famous as the films itself, such as the X-wing,

The Slave 1

The infamous Death Star

And of course the, Millennium Falcon

Star Wars has also brought us some of the most iconic movie characters in cinema. The courageous Luke Skywalker, the feisty Princess Leia, the charming Han Solo, the evil Darth Vader, and the wise Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I was 5 years old when my dad took me to see star wars for the first time, and I have been a fan ever since.

Many of my story ideas have been inspired by Star Wars, from the storyline, to the space battles, and the characters. This resulted in me creating my own sci-fi series called "The New Nuevia Chronicles".

When I was at Comic-Con in 2007, I had the awesome honor to meet one of the stars of Star Wars, Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker.

When I saw him my reaction was... calm and dignified.

To this day I have seen all the Star Wars movies since 1999 on their opening day.

Star Wars was not just a hit in the box office, it was also a break through in technology, such as the creation of Skywalker Sound and LucasFilm, which have become leaders in terms of VFX, sound, and CGI.

Although Walt Disney Company purchased LucasFilm and the rights to the entire Star Wars Franchise (the first film "A New Hope" is permanently owned by Fox) from George Lucas in 2012, it continues to draw in millions in the box office, and with Episode 8: The Last Jedi coming out this December, it seems unlikely to change.

Ever since May of 1977, the fan base for Star Wars has flourished, generating mass fan bases, merchandising, and the philosophy of the force. From fan films, auto mobiles, clothing lines, appliances, and costumes, it is most likely that the lure of Star Wars will continue to inspire and draw in new fans for generations to come.
