Why pharmacy?

I have always been interested in the health care field and pharmacy provided a unique path. I wanted to be involved in patient-centered care, but I am unable to handle large amounts of blood. Pharmacy was the solution to my problem. With the flexibility of the field, I found a career path that truly suited my interests and provides a range of careers if my interests change. Choosing pharmacy was the best decision I could have made. It is so rewarding to hear a patient tell you how much you have helped them or how much their disease state has improved.

Why Ole Miss?

The friendly atmosphere and beautiful campus influenced my decision to attend Ole Miss. After hearing about its Early Entry program, I knew this was where I wanted to be for pharmacy school. Representatives discussed how Ole Miss provided the right balance of education and fun with The Grove and numerous ASB activities throughout the year, and they were right. There are so many opportunities to be involved with any organization you can think of. And who doesn’t enjoy football season?

How does it feel to be awarded the Partners in Pharmacy Scholarship?

I feel very honored to be chosen for the Partners in Pharmacy Scholarship. It is exciting that the National Community Pharmacists Association recognizes the interest of student pharmacists in independent pharmacy. I am excited to be back at my third consecutive NCPA Annual Convention!

What other organizations are you involved in?

Currently, I am the Director of Policy for the University of Mississippi Advocacy Council and the Professional Development Chair for the Student College of Clinical Pharmacy. I am also on committees for the national chapters of Phi Lambda Sigma, the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists and the Society of Veterinary Hospital Pharmacists.

Last year I was president for the Quality Improvement Student Interest Group, an interprofessional organization on the UMMC campus. I served on the research committee for the Student College of Clinical Pharmacy and was vice president for the National Community Pharmacists Association, as well as secretary for the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists on the Jackson campus.

Other organizations that I am involved in include Phi Delta Chi and the American Pharmacists Association. While I was still on the Oxford campus, I was part of the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy's Student Ambassadors. I really loved working with the Humane Society as an ACVP officer to create pet-friendly events and being part of APhA’s Generation Rx and Operation Immunization programs. These were fun ways to get involved in the community.

What are your favorite places to study?

In undergrad, most of my studying was done at the Honors College. There was nothing better than sitting outside surrounded by all the plants in the sun. Once I started the professional program, many days and nights were spent in the large conference rooms (Oxford) or PBL rooms (Jackson) so that I could get the most accomplished with the smallest amount of distractions. I love studying at home, but unfortunately, my fur babies require attention 24/7 and have a tendency to get on computers and books.

What are your career goals?

I intend to complete a residency in veterinary pharmacy after graduation. I have been interested in veterinary pharmacy since my first year in pharmacy school, and it is exciting to think about how close I am to achieving my goal. After gaining clinical knowledge in the field, I would like to open my own independent compounding pharmacy that has a focus on veterinary prescriptions.

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I enjoy traveling and will go anywhere I can be out on the water or hike. I try to find time to read, and I enjoy trying different cuisines.
