I Ran

by Hidden Citizens

i ran

i ran so far away

i just ran

i ran all night and day**

i walked along the avenue

i never thought i’d meet someone like you

meet someone like you

reached out a hand to touch your face

you slowly disappear from my view*

from my view

couldn’t get away

i couldn’t get away

i ran

i ran so far away

i just ran

i ran all night and day

i ran

i ran so far away

i just ran

i ran all night and day

i couldn’t get away

couldn’t get away

i ran

i ran so far away

i just ran

i ran all night and day

i ran

i ran so far away

i just ran

i ran all night and day

*This is a hyperbole because a person can't actually disappear. This means that either the songwriter left the person or the person left them. The feeling I get from this is regret because it sounds like they didn't want that person to leave.

**This is imagery because the songwriter wants you feel the exhaustion of running all the time. They want you to feel like you can't get away no matter how far you run. The feeling I got from this from stress because it sounds like they scared and the further they run, the more tired they get, and they can't get away.

You can run but you can't hide.

Stressed Out

by Twenty One Pilots

i wish i found some better sounds no one’s ever heard,

i wish i had a better voice that sang some better words,

i wish i found some chords in an order that is new,

i wish i didn’t have to rhyme every time i sang,

i was told when i get older all my fears would shrink,*

but now i’m insecure and i care what people think.

my name’s ‘blurryface’ and i care what you think

wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days,

when our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.

sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when i was young,

how come i’m never able to identify where it’s coming from,

i’d make a candle out of it if i ever found it,

try to sell it, never sell out of it, i’d probably only sell one,

it’d be to my brother, ‘cause we have the same nose,

same clothes homegrown a stone’s throw from a creek we used to roam,

but it would remind us of when nothing really mattered,

out of student loans and treehouse homes we all would take the latter.

my name’s ‘blurryface’ and i care what you think

wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days,

when our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.

we used to play pretend, give each other different names,

we would build a rocket ship and then we’d fly it far away,**

used to dream of outer sp*ce but now they’re laughing at our face,

saying, “wake up, you need to make money.”

wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days,

when our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.

*This a personification because fear is an emotion, it can't physically shrink. The songwriter used this to describe how everyone told him his fears would go away but in reality, they only got worse. The feeling I got from this was resent because all the people told him that his fears would go away but they only got worse and he got more insecure.

**This is imagery because the songwriter is trying to create a vivid image of a rocket ship flying into outer space. What it really means is that he would pretend to escape reality. The feeling I got from this was sadness because it sounds like he miss those days where he could pretend and no one would get onto him about pretending.

Now we're stressed out.

Heathens

By Twenty One Pilots

all my friends are heathens, take it slow

wait for them to ask you who you know

please don’t make any sudden moves

you don’t know the half of the abused

all my friends are heathens, take it slow

wait for them to ask you who you know

please don’t make any sudden moves

you don’t know the half of the abuse

welcome to the room of people

who have rooms of people that they loved one day

docked away

just because we check the guns at the door

doesn’t mean our brains will change from hand grenades

you’ll never know the psychopath sitting next to you

you’ll never know the murderer sitting next to you

you’ll think, how’d i get here sitting next to you?

but after all i’ve said, please don’t forget

all my friends are heathens, take it slow

wait for them to ask you who you know

please don’t make any sudden moves

you don’t know the half of the abused

we don’t deal with outsiders very well

they say newcomers have a certain smell

you have trust issues, not to mention

they say they can smell your intentions*

you’ll never know the freakshow sitting next to you

you’ll have some weird people sitting next to you

you’ll think “how’d i get here, sitting next to you”

but after all i’ve said, please don’t forget

(watch it, watch it)

all my friends are heathens, take it slow

wait for them to ask you who you know

please don’t make any sudden moves

you don’t know the half of the abuse

all my friends are heathens, take it slow

(watch it)

wait for them to ask you who you know

(watch it)

all my friends are heathens, take it slow

(watch it)

wait for them to ask you who you know

(watch it)

[outro]

why’d you come, you knew you should have stayed

(it’s blasphemy)

i tried to warn you just to stay away

and now they’re outside ready to bust**

it looks like you might be one of us

*This a hyperbole because you can't actually smell the intentions off of someone. It's just an exaggeration. He use this because he's saying that new people know what they're up to. The feeling I got from this was mistrust because he doesn't trust outsiders due to the fact that they can sense what he is up to.

**This is imagery because the songwriter is trying to create a vivid image of his friends being angry. What it really means that the newcomer made his friends mad and now they're ready to "bust". The feeling I got from this was worry because he's trying to warn the newcomer that his friends are angry and they're coming for them.

You might be one of us.

Love and Hate

by Ashley Taylor

Love and hate are two different things.

One makes your heart beats fast...beep, beep!

One makes your veins pop out.

Hate is said in anger.

Love is said in a deceiving manner.

How can you ever know if it's actually true?

That the person isn't lying to you?

That's the thing about love and hate.

You just take it seriously cause it's a strong word.

Hate is a strong word.

But so is love.

And that gets tossed around like it's nothing.

They both make a difference.
