James Madison was one of our Founding Fathers. Lots of towns, cities, schools, buildings, and rivers have been named after him.

James Madison was born on March 16, 1751. His parents were Eleanor Rose Conway and James Madison Sr. He had eleven brothers and sisters. He was well performed in school but often very sick as a child. He grew up on a tobacco farm. It was in Port Conway King George County. He went to the College of New Jersey(Princeton). He learned a lot of languages and studied law.

In 1794 he married Dolley Payne Todd. He had no children but she had a son from a previous marriage. He was Secretary of State under Thomas Jefferson. He was elected as fourth president of the United States. He served from 1809-1817. He retired to his Orange County Virginia estate called Montpelier. He retired at the age of sixty-five.He died June 28, 1836. He died at the age of eighty five years old.

He was a very good president. He also loved his Country.
