A Note from the Principal

The end of the first nine week term is quickly approaching. Wow! October is a very busy month, so please be sure to check out below to see what is happening. Next week is Fall Break. I hope that you all have a relaxing and enjoyable break!

October Students of the Month

Congratulations to Emmy Toy, Rosemary McBeth, Skylyr Raney, Lane Taylor, Anniston Taylor, Akira Haycraft, Jack Davis, Kyler Arvin, Aiden Sergent, Alyn Strange, Logan McClure, Mrs. Shawna Walton, Maycee Hembree, and Jasper Davis who were selected as October Students/Staff of the Month. The "Mane" Trait for October was Be Respectful.

Important Information

Trash Bag Fundraiser Pick-Up

Trash Bag pick-up will be this week! They will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, October 1st from 3:00-5:00. If this time does not work, you may pick up anytime during school hours on Wednesday, October 2nd.

Thank you to all who made the trash bag fundraiser a success! Money is due Friday, October 4th.

Box Top Collection

Loogootee Elementary will be collecting Box Tops until Friday, October 4th. Box Top sheets were sent home earlier this week. The class who collects the most will receive a sweet treat after Fall Break.

Also, in the near future, Box Tops will no longer be on packages. It will be completely digital. Please download the Box Tops App, scan your receipts, and begin earning cash for Loogootee Elementary. It is easy!

Chili Supper/Scholastic Book Fair

LES teachers will be hosting their annual chili supper on Monday, October 21, 2019 from 5:00-7:30 PM. Order forms will be sent home on Monday, October 14th. There is also a link to the order form below. Please try to purchase tickets in advance so that we can plan to have enough food to accommodate everyone. Tickets will also be available at the door. The Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the library at this time, as well as the remainder of the week during school hours. We look forward to seeing you on October 21st!

LCSC Open House

On Monday, October 21, Loogootee Community Schools will be hosting an Open House for the community to come and see the renovation of the buildings. This will be during our Chili supper, so feel free to tour the building while at the elementary!

Book Character Day

To conclude our Scholastic Book Fair week and Red Ribbon week, on Friday, October 25th, we will celebrate our love for reading by having, "Dress up as your Favorite Book Character Day." Students can dress up as their favorite character from a book. Students should come to school dressed in their costume. Please do not dress up as any scary book characters and no masks.

Calling All Parents!

LES is going to begin a Parent Advisory Group for any parents who are interested in helping out with various school activities and/or helping with ways to raise money for our school. There will be a brief meeting on Tuesday, October 22nd, at 5:00 PM at LES. During the meeting, we will discuss the school needs and ways to volunteer. We hope to see you there!

Pop Can Tabs for Shriners Children Hospital

Led by 4th grader Karcyn Trambaugh and teacher Ms. Connie Walker, the students at Loogootee Elementary are collecting pop tabs for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. If you would like to donate pop tabs, please drop them by the Elementary Office or contact Ms. Connie Walker at cmwalker@loogootee.k12.in.us. LES Spotlight

College Go Week

During the week of September 24th, we participated in College Go Week. Students learned about colleges, talked about what they want to be when they get older, and participated in dress-up days for the week!

Character Counts

Each month, Mrs. Megan Shake, Youth First Social Worker, visits each classroom to talk with students about character education and social/emotional learning. This past month, Mrs. Shake did an activity with students about being bucket fillers in relation to being kind to one another and building relationships.

Fourth Grade participates in Farm Fair

The fourth graders had a wonderful time learning about a variety of topics at the Farm Fair. Students had the opportunity to hear about ATV safety. They also learned about the life cycle of turkeys. 4-H Leaders spoke about the why and how to join 4-H. REMC had an excellent demonstration on electrical safety. The students ended the day with seeing the exotic animals with the Silly Safari.

Kindergarteners visit Apple Hill Orchard

On September 24th, our kindergarten classes went to Apple Hill Orchard in Bruceville. They learned about the different kinds of apple trees and how they are washed. They were also shown how to tell new growth on the trees. They discussed what items can be made out of apples and got to sample different kinds of apples and apple cider! They enjoyed lunch and some play time at the Washington Park.
