A Message from Dr. Machesky

Dear ONE Troy,

As we approach the end of the first quarter of the school year, it seems a great opportunity to discuss the successes we have experienced as well as some ongoing challenges that we need your help to address.

Our students have thrived returning to a more normal, in-person environment. Our teachers and staff have worked hard to find creative ways to offer students traditional experiences, while keeping everyone safe. We have resumed extra-curriculars and Athletics and have seen tremendous success on the field and courts. Our bands and orchestras have had incredible performances and our theater students are once again taking the stage. We celebrated a record 74 National Merit Semifinalists this week and have three students who earned perfect scores on AP exams.

Alongside those successes have come challenges, and one of our biggest is staffing. It takes a lot of people to keep school district running, and like many others in our area and across the country, we are struggling to maintain staffing levels that allow for normal day-to-day operations. We have seen other local districts cancel bus routes, close schools or revert to virtual learning due to lack of staffing. Though the TSD has not had to take drastic action, we have had to make multiple adjustments and worked collaboratively with our contracted partners to provide the services we need.

But now, we are asking for your help. We need individuals who are interested in joining our team as substitute teachers, bus drivers, food service staff, health care aides, custodians and more. If you have the time and the desire to make a positive impact on our students, this is the time to step up and help our schools run smoothly. You may think you don’t have the right degree to be a substitute teacher, but if you are passionate about learning and have 60 college credits, we want to hear from you. CDL training is available to those who with a good driving record who want to learn to drive bus.

We need the right people, who are dedicated to our students and the success of the Troy School District.

We recognize that not everyone in our community has the availability to join our team, even on a temporary or part-time basis, but maybe you know someone who can. Please ask them to visit our website at www.troy.k12.mi.us and hover over the “EMPLOYMENT” tab at the top. There you will see the job classifications and be able to apply immediately. If you have any questions, please reach out to our Employee Services department at jobs@troy.k12.mi.us.

Challenging times call for creative and non-traditional solutions. Should you have other thoughts or ideas, we are available to discuss.

Warm regards,

Richard M. Machesky Ed.D Superintendent
