Importance in Photo Journalism

W. Eugene Smith played an important role in Photo Journalism because many of his famous pictures were taken of World War II, which was a very important and known war. He developed the photo essay into a sophisticated visual form. Smith's work was very significant to many.

My Opinion

I like this photographers work because each of his images has its own story to it, and all of his pictures are so different. He has a very unique eye, which I enjoy and has a love for black and white. I think that his photographs are taken very well and it shows that he puts time and effort into each one of his pictures. My favorite thing about smith’s work is that each picture is so unique in its own way and that is something that I look for when I am taking pictures. I like how Smith can take something boring or plain and turn it into something incredible.

My Favorite Image

This is my favorite image because of the way this image is laid out, each object is placed differently which is what makes this image unique. The sign that says dream in this picture can mean many different things which keeps the viewer in awe. It is a very old image that can mean many different things and has a very unique layout. This image can have many different emotions to it, it just depends on how the viewer looks at it.

“Negatives are the notebooks, the jottings, the false starts, the whims, the poor drafts, and the good draft but never the completed version of the work… The print and a proper one is the only completed photograph, whether it is specifically shaded for reproduction, or for a museum wall.” – W. Eugene Smith
