NoFIRES 2016 Conference Burn demonstration

Nationwide, more than half of all intentionally set fires are started by youths under the age of 18.

Fires are often started in homes where a child had easy access to lighters or matches

Approximately 50,000 youth set fires are reported each year

On average, Youth-set fires cause 80 deaths, 860 injuries, and $235 million in property damage each year

70% of youth-set fires were started with a lighter or matches

Nearly 40% of youth-set fires start in the bedroom

On November 1st and 2nd, 2016, the NoFIRES Partnership was proud to present the 4th Annual Fire Investigation Conference at the Hadley Farms Meeting House in Hadley, MA. This year, the conference was designed for police, firefighters, prosecutors, mental health providers, school personnel, and probation officers and focused solely on Investigating the Youth Firesetter.

The conference concluded with this demonstration of just how quickly a fire can spread.
