Superintendent's Summary Dr. Jack Parker ~ Feb 22, 2019

To date, I have spent four full days in school buildings getting to know staff through 30-minute meetings with individuals and small groups. These Listening Tour meetings have been very helpful as I learn more about Mt. Vernon Schools. In speaking already with well over 100 staff members and having two and a half days still remaining in my tour, I can say that some very solid themes have emerged. Collaboration, Support, Community, Kids, and Family are constantly shared as positives for the Mt. Vernon staff who spoke with me. While I still have a lot to learn, I am confident that we have a caring, supportive, and dedicated staff serving our students!

I am excited to continue my journey of getting to know the great people at Mt. Vernon. To that end, I am scheduling "Traveling Talks" throughout the community where I can get to know parents and community members. These will continue throughout my tenure as I seek to learn the hopes and concerns of all stakeholders including parents and other community members. Continual communication and collaboration is key to moving us to engage and empower our students through innovative learning experiences.

Join us for the Hancock County Promise Celebration!

The community is welcome to join us for a free breakfast during the Hancock County Promise Celebration on February 28th from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at MVCSC's Administrative Service Center. We will be celebrating the successes of the program and the impact it has had on our young students' lives.

This fun event will feature entertainment provided by young students, videos and a financial gift presentation! For catering purposes, please RSVP to Scott Shipley, Hancock County Promise Chairman, at scott.shipley@mvcsc.k12.in.us.

The Hancock County Promise program aims to foster a community-wide culture where all students have the opportunity to open a 529 savings account and believe they can achieve a post-secondary education. Kindergarten students experience educational lessons on savings and visit IUPUI for their "Walk into My Future" field trip. On this college campus visit, students experience hands-on activities and meet college students that help inspire their futures!
