RVillage Rally ONE Elkhart, IN. may 2018

So about a month ago we were just hanging out in the desert in Pahrump, Nevada. A year previous Jeanne had found this cool app and website called RVillage.

Unlike other RV apps this one focuses on the interpersonal aspect of RV'ing and allows people to find each other, talk, ask questions and form groups on the road. Within the first week of using it we met some great people in a campground in northern Michigan we still talk to today!

So Jeanne notices they are having a rally in Indiana and we weren't doing anything terribly special - so off we went to Elkhart Indiana!

Jeanne needed a change from the usual crowd

So off we went to Indiana! What a trip we had! We visited Jeanne's Aunt Donna and her Cousins in Arizona.

We saw a little weather in Kansas
Had a little mechanical problem in Illinois
Elkharts Kansas and Iowa

Dropped by both Elkhart KS AND Elkhart IA along the way and eventually made it to the Rally! We saw the American Pickers and the Worlds Largest Concrete Garden Gnome!

More American Pickers

The theme of the rally was less about the machines - there weren't lines of motorhomes for sale - and more about learning, building connections and forming human bonds.

We shared meals
Had ice cream socials and wine tasting in the big tent
Received tickets to the RV Hall of Fame Museum

Classes ranged from RV Refrigeration, Tire and Electrical safety to instapot cooking, boondocking and even a dog show! There were generally 3 classes offered per time slot and when you weren't there you could be in the Exhibition Hall chatting with vendors.

But the highlight each and every night was the social time around the Firebirds.

Eighteen feet tall and built by Atlanta artist Chris Blackcat Smith (find him on Facebook) we poured a full cord of wood through them and listened to live music while they radiated heat dozens of feet in all directions.

We grooved to the music of the Bobby Dunne, a longtime professional musician and who helped make this Rally half WoodStock, half Burning Man, and half RV Rally. This event was so bitchin it needed three halves! We drank, danced and rocked well into the night. Some of the video is a little off focus, well, so was I.

Thanks Curtis Coleman for making RVillage and this rally a reality!
