JOHN OWEN QUEDAD CASTRO flutist

JOHN OWEN QUEDADO CASTRO, flutist

John Owen started taking flute lessons at the age of 9 under Mr. Raymond Sarreal at the AWIT Institute for the Arts for a semester then transferred to Ms. Geraldine Margaret Q. Padilla. He eventually became a member of the AWIT Pilipinas Youth Orchestra under the baton of Mr. Ferdinand Medina. He was also a member of the AWIT Children’s Choir.

He then passed the Annual Nationwide Search for Young Art Scholars in 2008 at the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA). As a flute scholar at PHSA, he had performed solo in various venues such as: the Mini hall and the Abelardo Hall at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City, the Cultural Center of the Philippines Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino, the Esplanade in Singapore, and various local venues. He had the opportunity to attend masterclasses by world-class flutists such as Mr. Francisco Candelaria, Ms. Viviana Guzman, and Mr. Jin Ta of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

In August 2011, he was chosen to be one of the two delegates from the Philippines to participate in the First Asian Culture Festival at Gwangju, South Korea.

He continued to pursue music studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman, College of Music under Professor Enrique Barcelo. Eventually he became one of the most sought after chamber flutists in the university and the Philippines with the knowledge and training he had with the Ripieno Ensemble—the only Pierrot Ensemble in the country. At present, he is currently studying flute under the guidance of Professor Antonio Maigue.
