On June 29, 2018, Greensboro Housing Authority (GHA) held the Strong Families Initiative Event at Ray Warren Homes. For the past five years, GHA has celebrated the HUD Fatherhood Initiative similarly. However, for this sixth year, the focus has shifted to both parents with the aim to connect men and women to resources that assist in unifying families as well as providing fun activities to support the bonding of families. The celebration was held on a Friday evening with activities that included a basketball tournament, horse and carriage rides, knocker ball, a bounce house, photo booth, games, a dance-off, and delicious free food. Several of our generous donors also provided prizes such as gift cards, jewelry and play tickets.
Community partners from around Greensboro were on hand to provide a wealth of resources. Women’s Resource Center, PACE of the Triad, Legal Aid, Reading Connections, Cone Health, Deep Roots Market, AT&T, United Health Care and the GHA Family Self-Sufficiency program provided information to residents about resources available in the community.
Across the country, throughout May and June, hundreds of public housing authorities and affordable housing owners host events in their communities. GHA believes that strong family units are the building block to strong communities and is proud to celebrate the families in the communities we serve.
