AIDS

In this time period people were just now discovering what aids were. Its is a sexually transmitted disease that there is no cure for. Over 1 million people have been diagnosed with AIDS.

BIRTH CONTROL

The practice of preventing unwanted pregnancies. 95% of pregnancies happen because of people being inconsistent with birth control. A lot of people starting using birth control in the '70s as a result of the culture of "Free Love"

BUDAPEST

The Capitol and most populous city of Hungary. Over 1.7 million people live there. Summed up all that the cold war stood for.

DISNEYLAND

Disneyland is a theme park loved by many people in Anaheim, California. It opened and quickly became popular among everyone.

ELVIS PRESLEY

Elvis Presley was known as the King of Rock and roll. He was a cultural icon during the cold war.

HEMINGWAY

He was an american novelist. He had a strong influence on the culture of the cold war. He committed suicide.

JOSEPH STALIN

Joseph was a dictator/ communist leader. He was the leader of the soviet union. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage.

MARILYN MONROE

Marilyn Monroe was actress and model. June 1, 1926- August 5, 1962. She was born in LA. she was popular during the cold war, and was one of the biggest icons for women. she was the sex symbol for women.

PETER PAN

Peter pan was named by the US government and is the story of 14,000 Cuban children who were brought to the US by Catholic Organizations by the US. They did this to encourage Cubans to move to the United States, the Catholics offered to save their children from communism by setting them up with scholarships at U.S. schools and caring for them until their parents could join them.

PUNK ROCK

Punk rocks is a loud, fast-moving, and aggressive form of rock music, popular in the late 1970s. It was popular during the cold war because it was commonly known as violent and so was the cold war.

ROCKEFELLER

American industrialist John D. Rockefeller was born July 8, 1839, in Richford, New York. He built his first oil refinery near Cleveland and in 1870 incorporated the Standard Oil Company. By 1882 he had a near-monopoly of the oil business in the U.S., but his business practices led to the passing of antitrust laws. He had a building built in his name in New York City.

Vaccine

A vaccine is a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases. It was first created for polio which was an epidemic that occurred in the 1950s Sometimes when you get a vaccine your body cant fight it back and you become infected with the virus.
