The Yard Edinburgh

The Yard, which ranks among charities most regularly supported by The Adamson Trust, has been creating adventure play opportunities for disabled children since 1986. Its flagship centre is in Edinburgh, and The Yard also runs services in Dundee and Edinburgh. “Besides giving children a safe place to play, our holistic approach as a family centre gives children and their parents and carers a community,’’ says The Yard. “On a practical level, our play sessions enhance children’s confidence and self esteem. They also help children come to terms with their own disability as they become aware of their own differences."

For the parents, too, The Yard is important - as well as receiving informal respite, they meet other parents facing the same sort of challenges, giving them a chance to build a network of support and understanding.

More than the words, perhaps, the children themselves, tell the story: here are some of them in 2018 having fun, getting messy, just being children.
