2019 Holiday Kickoff Amherst launches holiday season

The Town of Amherst kicked off the 2019 Holiday Season with a bang over the Nov. 15-17 weekend. The celebration began with a light up in Victoria Square on Nov. 15. It was followed by a super Christmas Parade on Nov. 16 and a send off for the Tree for Boston on Nov. 17.

The Light Up in Victoria Square

Singer Steve Wells entertained the crowd in Victoria Park in the moments before the light up took place....
He was soon assisted in the singing Christmas songs by enthusiastic youngsters...
The music got some to dancing ...
Others were just happy to listen ...
Many enjoyed hot chocolate on a cold night...
Then the big moment arrived. Members of Amherst town council and Mayor David Kogon brought Christmas greetings, then they were assisted by several youngsters in pushing the button to light up Victoria Square.
With the touch of the button, Victoria Square was presented in its holiday glory.
Following the light up, the Amherst Regional High School band entertained with Christmas music.

Christmas Parade 2019

The next night, Nov. 16, crowds lined Amherst's street to view the Christmas Parade...
Fire, police vehicles and members of Amherst town council, including Mayor David Kogon led off the parade...
There were all kinds of floats...
There were all kinds of characters and happy faces in the parade...
Marching bands ...
Candy canes were handed out, there were more happy faces and a couple of Santa look-a-likes before the big man...
Arrived in a sled led by several electrifying reindeer.

Tree for Boston

On Nov. 17, Amherstonians got the opportunity to give Nova Scotia's annual Christmas tree gift to Boston a final Nova Scotia farewell. While the tree was parked in from the Atlantic Superstore, the crowd was entertained with music and got to warm themselves with hot chocolate and a healthy snack that was provided by the Amherst Youth Town Council. Councillors and staff even took part in a photo session with the tree.
Mayor David Kogon brought season's greetings to the crowd and presented the driver of the tree, Dave MacFarlane a gift.
Soon after people took the opportunity to get a picture with the tree.

The Town of Amherst wishes everyone a safe and happy Holiday and an even better new year.
