XXI Annual International Conference

The Twenty First Annual International Conference on the broad theme “Achieving Excellence in Higher Education” held on January 4-5, 2020 was hosted by Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, University of Delhi, Delhi; and Delhi School of Professional Studies and Research (an affiliated college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi; & a NAAC Accredited ‘A’ Grade Institution), under the joint auspicious of ShyamLal College (E), University of Delhi; Sri Aurobindo College (E), University of Delhi; Indian Commerce Association Delhi-NCR Chapter; Rotary Club of Delhi Maurya; and Divine International Group of Institutions, Gwalior and was sponsored by ICSSR. More than 250 academicians, researchers, students, and practicing managers both from India and abroad participated over the two-days spread, punctuated by inaugural and valedictory sessions. 90 papers were presented across the two days of the conference representing countries, namely, USA, South Africa, Hungry, United Arab Emirates Iran, Bangladesh, Nepal, and India.

LOHRI CELEBRATION

The festival of Lohri is celebrated primarily to mark the end of winter season and is traditionally believed to welcome the Sun to the northern hemisphere. Lohri celebrations took place on January 13, 2020, in the premises of DSPSR. The ritualistic bonfire was lighted by Prof. G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR, in the presence of faculty members and students. The students danced around the holy bonfire, along with DJ and live dhol, and offered their prayers for the prosperity of everyone. Later on, Prasad was distributed among staff and students.

MINORITY CONFERENCE

DSPSR has been identified by Centre for Advanced Studies Research & Development (CASRD) and has been entrusted with the task of creating awareness among the minorities about the welfare schemes, being run for the minorities by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi for the upliftment of Economic & Social conditions of the minorities. The Ministry of Minority Affairs defines people belonging to minority communities as Muslim, Sikh, Jain, Boudh, Parsi, and Christian. For the above purpose, the major schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs include Nai Roshni, Learn & Earn, Padho Pardesh, USTTAD etc. under which the trainees belonging to minority communities, as spelt out above, are provided with financial assistance in the form of loans, grants, scholarships for studies in India & Abroad. It is to spread the awareness, understanding, and knowledge about the various schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs for the benefit of the minority community members that a two-day conference was held on January 10 & 11, 2020, at DSPSR. The Conference organized by DSPSR, under the umbrella of Centre for Advanced Studies Research & Development (CASRD) will also highlight the schemes offered by Delhi Govt. meant for minorities of the state.

Guest Lecture on Mind Management and Career Counseling

A Guest Lecture was organized on “Mind Management and Career Counseling” on January 16, 2020, for final year students of BBA and B. Com (H). Ms. Mani Goswami, Assistant Professor, Sri Sri University, Odisha, delivered the lecture. She said that to get success, we need to have domain knowledge, confidence, leadership, enthusiasm, etc. To get success, we are required to work on our mind through mediation.

Guest Lecture on Understanding your Persona for Corporate Success

Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi, Head, Business Communication, IMS Ghaziabad, took a session on January 16, 2020, with final year students of BBA and B. Com (H) on the topic “Understand your Persona for Corporate Success”.

Guest Lecture on Global Opportunities in Higher Education

A guest lecture was held on the topic "Global Opportunities in Higher Education" for the final year students of BBA and B. Com (H) on January 23, 2020, in the Seminar Hall of DSPSR. The Resource Person was Ms. Salma Nasr, International Relations, and Global Alliances Manager, Universal Business School, Mumbai. She talked about how to avail opportunities from Universal Business School as job market is highly competitive and is expected to only become more intense. Proper planning and preparation will determine success for future graduates.

Swachhta Pakhwada

NSS Cell of DSPSR observed ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ with full zest and enthusiasm. All the departments, along with their students actively participated in ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ as per the schedule between January 23 to February 6, 2020. Prof. G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR, in his address, explained in detail the importance of maintaining cleanliness at personal level, family level, society level and community level to students. An interactive session on importance of cleanliness was organised by the NSS Coordinators. Suggestions were taken from the students on maintaining clean and hygienic environment in college premises. ‘Swachhta Oath’ was taken by all students and teachers of the college to make efforts so that the areas around us are greener and cleaner. A cleanliness drive was conducted near the College Canteen. The faculty members and students took part in the drive with full enthusiasm. A plantation drive was also organised in the nearby area. NSS Coordinators visited nearby J. J. Colony and sensitized local people about the importance of cleanliness.

Advanced Excel Workshop

A one day workshop on Advanced Excel was organized by DSPSR on January 25, 2020. The workshop was conducted for teaching as well as non teaching staff of the Institute. Mr. Nipun Gupta, Trainer, Trulabz Technologies Pvt. Ltd, was the resource person. He disseminated information about data validation, pivot tables and some important Excel shortcuts. The workshop was a success as all the participants gathered some valuable insights during the conduct of the same.

Elixer

A visit to orphanage was organized on January 25, 2020, at Bal Vihar Orphanage. The event started with a brief orientation of the activities followed by a Corporate Employees interaction with the beneficiaries and distribution of material among the employees. This was followed by a kitchen gardening activity along with experience sharing session.

Republic Day Celebration

Republic Day was observed by NSS Cell of DSPSR on January 26, 2020. The celebrations began with a welcome address by Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Assistant Professor, DSPSR, followed by Muskan Tripathi and Anjali , 1st Year Students of BBA, enunciating their views about the significance of the day. There were around 30 participants in the event. Thereafter, Prof. B. P. Singh, Chairman, DSPSR, was invited for the flag hoisting ceremony. He highlighted the fundamental rights and duties of every citizen. His words encouraged the students to be more devoted towards the nation and develop scientific temper. The event ended with distribution of sweets to one and all.

National Seminar on Union Budget 2020: A Critique

IQAC, DSPSR, organized Three Day National Seminar on the theme “Union Budget 2020: A Critique” from February 17 to 19, 2020. The seminar discussed issues related to the current year’s Union Budget. It attempted to assess the current environment and debate the requirements of the future. The objectives were to understand the Budget from the macro and micro economic perspective, to identify key changes from the previous year and discuss future Implications of Union Budget 2020. The session started with the welcome address by Prof. G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR, and introduced the topic to all the faculty members. Prof. B. P. Singh, Chairman, DSPSR, set the tone for the discourse in the seminar by raising the issue that some of the practices followed in Indian budgetary practices need immediate attention and rethink, especially if fiscal prudence is the goal and budget is an important means towards that. Later faculty members presented their presentations followed by interactive and constructive discussion. Prof. G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR, concluded the session by highlighting the micro and macro level implications of Union Budget 2020.

Industrial Visit to Udaipur

An industrial visit involving 48 students of DSPSR to Jain Marble, Udaipur, was organised from February 20 to 24, 2020. The faculty coordinators for the same were Dr. Pooja Sharma, Dr. Sugandh Rawal and Dr. Hemkant Kulshreshtha. The students learned about the manufacturing process and supply chain process of the company which deals in marble slabs and their major supply is to Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The trip was well organized and included visit to places like Monsoon Palace, City Palace, Aquarium Museum, etc. Overall the Industrial Trip was a valuable learning experience for the students and faculty members.

A very informative and knowledgeable Guest Lecture was delivered by Mr. Vinit Singh Kaler, on February 20, 2020, who is an authority in the field of Finance, a Corporate Trainer and a distinguished DSPSR Alumni. Post session, he was felicitated with an Appreciation Award by Prof. B. P. Singh, Chairman, DSPSR, and Prof. G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR, for his outstanding achievement and professional development in the field of finance as a Corporate Trainer.

Guest Lecture on Digital Marketing

A guest lecture on ‘Prospect of Digital Marketing’ was held on February 21, 2020 in the Seminar Hall of DSPSR. Eminent speaker from 9LedgePro, a Microsoft recognized digital marketing training centre, delivered the lecture. The session was very interesting and interactive as students were eager to know about this new area of digital marketing.

MDP on Digital and Social Media Marketing for Business Growth

A one day MDP on “Digital and Social Media Marketing for Business Growth” was organized by DSPSR on February 22, 2020. More than 40 participants from Industry and academic field attended the MDP with great enthusiasm. Resource persons, Mr. Vivin Ahuja, Ms. Sumita Thukral and Ms. Riteeka Sharma, Sr. level trainers from renowned PCTI Digital Marketing Training Institute, enchanted the audiences with their spellbound lecture. They brought out the salient aspects of how to build your career in this booming field and engaged the participants with practical assignments in the lab.

NSS NATIONAL INTEGRATION CAMP

A National Integration Camp was organized by MCM DAV College, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, from February 24 to March 1, 2020. The objective of the camp was to bring together the volunteers from different cultures belonging to different states of the country. There were yoga sessions and dance performances of the participants in the camp. The volunteers enjoyed and learned a lot during the seven day camp event. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for the NSS volunteers of DSPSR.

Guest Lecture on Wellness and Safety in Cyber Space

IQAC, DSPSR, organized a Guest Lecture on “Wellness and Safety in Cyber Space” on February 28, 2020, for BBA and B. Com (H) students. The session was addressed by Ms. Nisha Dua, Coach, Cyber Safety and Wellness. The session was graced by the presence of Prof. B. P. Singh, Chairman, DSPSR & Prof. G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR. Ms. Nisha Dua addressed various issues related to Cyber Security and different ways to be safe on internet. The session was very enlightening for the students as they were told about how to use internet safely and smartly in order to thrive in the digital era. Further, Ms. Nisha Dua told students the right way to use social networking sites – what all should and should not be posted on different networking websites. She also addressed students’ queries and gave some tips concerning the protection of privacy in the virtual world. It was a highly informative and motivating session for both the faculty and students.

International Women's Day

NSS Cell of DSPSR organized a guest lecture on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 12, 2020 in the Seminar Hall from 11:00 PM onwards. The guest for the event was by Dr. Anil Kumar, NSS Program Officer, Bharati Vidyapeeth's College of Engineering who was welcomed by Prof.G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR. The event started with lighting of the lamp followed by a welcome address by Prof. G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR, wherein he expressed his views on women empowerment. Thereafter, a documentary was shown to the students on ‘The Women of our Lives’. Further, Dr. Anil Kumar commenced the session with interactive discussion on the inequalities existing in the society. Also, he emphasized on the importance of women and their role in today’s world. The two hour session concluded with felicitation of the students who attended National Integration Camp, Kangra. The sessionn concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Poojan Bathla, NSS Program Officer, DSPSR.

PROF. P. N. SINGH MEMORIAL LECTURE

The 11th Professor P. N. Singh Memorial Lecture was successfully organized online on March 30, 2020, through Google Meet to pay tribute to late Prof. P. N. Singh who was the State Minister of Finance for the state of Bihar, and Executive Director DSPSR. The event was coordinated by Prof. Sima Kumari, Dean, DSPSR. The program started with a welcome address of Prof. G. S. Popli, Director, DSPSR. He welcomed all the dignitaries present online, and shared his valuable thoughts related to Prof. P. N. Singh. He also announced that all the faculty members of DSPSR would contribute one day salary for the month of March, 2020 as contribution to PM Cares Fund to fight against COVID-19 pandemic, in the memory of late Prof. P. N. Singh. Shri Nirmal Singh, Dr. R. N. Singh, Dr. Vinay Pratap Singh, Dr. Ashwani Singh and Mr. Nishchay Kaushik, grandsons of Late Prof. P. N. Singh, and Dr. Rana Singh, Dr. Anurag Singh, Dr. Arpita Kaul, Mr. Saurabh Singh, shared their reminisces and details about their association with late Prof. P.N. Singh. They also praised the immense modesty, generosity of Late Prof. P. N. Singh along with the way he tackled with the things to get things happen, to lead a discipline life, and work as troubleshooter. Prof. A. K. Singh, President, DSPSR, and Vice Chancellor, Sri Sri University, Cuttack, Odisha, addressed the audience. He shared his memory on how the first International Conference of DSPSR was organized by Prof. P. N. Singh Sir. Prof. B. P. Singh, Chairman, DSPSR, shared the memories he had with late Prof. P. N. Singh, along with a detailed information of his contribution in the field of academics, politics, and bhojpuri language.
