GSOCC Senior Day By: Elle fair

The girls soccer team hosted the New Cannaan Rams on Friday in an FCIAC regular season matchup. This game was played in honor of the eight Staples seniors on the team.

Erin Lynch' 18 gets ready to kick the ball along side backup goalie Cameron Ragland. Lynch suffered an injury that has kept her out of play for three weeks, but she got to experience the thrill of senior day while both teams let her have the first kick of the game.

Senior defender Annie Amacker helped to keep the ball out of Staples defense. In the first half, Staples dominated offensively having many opportunities to score, but not being able to capitalize. Amacker has been a solid defender for the Wreckers for many years even after two ACL surgeries.

Starter and star for the Wreckers is freshman Autumn Smith. Smith was a key player for the Wreckers in the win against New Canaan. Only a Freshman and she is proving herself an MVP for this Varsity squad.

Katie Alegio' 20 gets ready to kick a ball across the Wreckers goal in attempts to get a touch on it and score. Staples had many opportunities in the first half, they just could not seem to put the ball in the back of the net. New Canaan goalie made a few key saves in the first half that kept the Rams alive.

Ava Simonovki' 20 was another key player for the Wreckers. Her ability to transition from midfield to defense helped the Wreckers tremendously.

Sophomore standout, Julia Lombardo wins the battle for the ball against New Canaan defender. Lombardo ultimately won the game for the Wreckers.

Reese Sutter' 20 is a second year Varsity starter. Last year, Reese won the Most Valuable Player for the Varsity team. She continues to prove herself this year. In the win against New Canaan, Sutter helped to possess the ball and calm down the offensive line for the Wreckers.

The Staples Wreckers celebrate after a goal at the three minute mark from Julia Lombardo' 20. Lombardo's goal was to the top right corner right above the goalies head. This goal gave complete momentum to the Wreckers and helped them to carry out the win.

Staples Wreckers storm the field in celebration after a hard fought game. This win helped to improve the Wreckers record to 11-3-0 and keeps them as the number one spot in the FCIAC.

The Wreckers host St. Joes on Oct. 24 in an FCIAC matchup that the Wreckers have had marked on their calendar all year.
