Jamaica's population is around 2,715,000 people recorded in 2013. Kingston which is the capital of Jamaica has close to 1,000,000 of those people living there.

The Prime Minister of Jamaica is Andrew Holness. He has been the Prime Minister of Jamaica for about 1 year. As the Prime Minister, he is the head of the government. there are two main political parties- The Jamaica Labor Party which generally favors enterprise and The People's National Party which advocates a moderate socialism.
On Christopher Columbus' second voyage to the West Indies, he landed on the island that is now know as Jamaica. He claimed it for Spain. In 1510, Jamaica was settled by the Spanish.
The main language spoken in Jamaica is English but a lot of people speak Patois. Patois combines English and Spanish languages.
The typical school day in Jamaica starts at 8:00am and goes till 2:00 or 2:30 in the afternoon. Jamaica children wear uniforms to school which are normally their school colors. All children are involved in some type of sport at the school. These sports include track & field, football (soccer), cricket, swimming, field hockey, tennis, netball, and basketball.
The three most popular sports in Jamaica are track & field, football (soccer), and cricket. Usain Bolt is a famous Jamaican sprinter. He is known as the fastest man in the world. He is the first person to hold the 100 meter and 200 meter world record and was part of the 4 x 100 meter relay world record team. He has eight gold Olympic medals.
Clothing is one of the major industries in Jamaica. It is their primary exported item. Other industries include oil refining, sugar and tobacco processing, flour milling, and production of rum, metal, paper, chemicals, and telecommunications equipment.
On June 7th 1692, an earthquake struck Port Royal, the capital of Jamaica and destroyed it. It is estimated that 3,000 people were killed and 23,000 were injured
Harold Brady, attorney and senior member of the Jamaica Labour Party was found guilty the week of February 27th, 2017 for misappropriating funds that belong to state-run Factories Corporation. Mr. Brady was barred from practicing in Jamaica and must pay more than $854,376 in U.S dollars for restitution.
The national dish of Jamaica is Ackee and Saltfish. Other dishes include Callaloo and Run down.
Jamaican music includes many popular genres, including reggae, mento, ska, rocksteady, dub music, and dancehall. Reggae music is popular through the famous musician Bob Marley.

If there was any island I would like to visit, it would probably be Jamaica. It has beautiful beaches with amazing rainforests. I would also love to go zip lining and hiking.
