Help Organize Our Town Hall Meeting

Unleash Your Activist (a member of the MoCo Indivisible Coalition) is helping organize a Town Hall meeting and we need your help! It will be at the Silver Spring Civic Center on Sunday, February 26 at 6:30 p.m. Jamie Raskin will speak on “One Nation under the Constitution: How the People and Congress Can Resist a Lawless President.” The event may also include Sen. Cardin, Sen. Van Hollen, and/or Rep. Delaney. Due to high demand this will be a ticketed event; info pending. We need help with press, staffing, and programming. To be involved, please contact Devora Kimelman-Block,

Feed the Lawyers

The lawyers & translators are still out at Dulles (and many other airports), and immigration lawyers are working overtime. Now, in addition to the EO issues, we've been seeing ICE raids on immigrant-heavy areas. People are scared, and coming for counseling. You can help by providing meals for the many volunteers of #DullesJustice who are giving their time for the greater good. The food options at the airport are limited to coffee, baked goods, and snacks. Sign up here to arrange to bring a meal: TakeThemAMeal (recipient: Justice, pw: 1788). If you don’t feel like cooking, order from one of the places that deliver to Dulles.

Alternatively, bring a meal to the hard-working, underpaid advocates at a local immigration or refugee service agency near you!

Fight Racism

Here’s an opportunity to participate in a workshop designed to re-frame our work against racism and to galvanize our communities to engage in racial justice. The workshop, led by ethics professor Rev. Dr. Jennifer Harvey (Dear White People) is called “The Other Side of the Coin: A Workshop Exploring White Antiracism and Action,” and takes place at MCCDC on Sunday, March 26 from 3:30-8:00pm. You can find out more about Rev. Dr. Harvey at her website, in this article, and on her blog. This workshop is open to ALL.

Go to to sign up, to contribute through PayPal, or to make a commitment. Please be in touch with Rev. Miller ( if you have any questions.

Know Your Stuff

At the February 12 meeting, we talked about different ways we each prefer to participate, then met in smaller groups focused on the District, Maryland, and Virginia. Each group is identifying key issues and contacts. To review the information, see the overall, DC, MD, and VA toolkits, and feel free to add comments.

Unleash’s District Team Report

“Hands Off DC” began fighting federal intervention in local affairs with a rally and organizing meeting on February 13. This article provides an overview. First steps: follow @HandsOffDC for news, join the Facebook group for organizing, and go to to download a sign and Congressional contact list.

Unleash’s Maryland Team Report

“Operation Hogan” will pressure the governor on the issues, make sure he has a strong Democratic opponent, and work to get out the vote. We’ll work with Emerge MD, the Maryland Democratic Party, and local Indivisible groups on this. We are also building relationships with frontline communities by connecting with the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring and CASA de Maryland.

Unleash’s Virginia Team Report

The 2017 governor's race is critical for the 2020 census and redistricting; only a Democratic governor will put a check on the gerrymandering. We are researching candidates in advance of the June 13 primary (Michael Levin) and looking into holding a fundraiser (Robert Mac). We also plan to contact the VA Dem party (Suzy Lane) and local VA Indivisible groups (Michael Levin) to find out where to focus our efforts. Lastly, there was a special election last week in VA and Jeff Bourne, a Dem, won. Yeah!

Unleash’s National Report

Thanks to everyone who called to protest the nominations of DeVos, Pruitt, and Puzder (withdrawn!) and rallied for good jobs this morning with Senators Warren and Sanders. Video here; Jason Kimelman-Block is the final speaker.
