Rick’s most famous story, the one that brought him to fame, was written by accident. (That story is Percy Jackson.) His son, Haley has ADHD, so one night he asked Rick to tell him a bedtime story. Rick told him every story he knew, so he made up a new one. It took him three days to tell the whole story. When he was done, Haley told him to write the story down. Rick did, and one thing led to another and now we have a thirty-three books and counting. There are eight different series, that are based off of this first book. They all have something big in common. All of these books are based off of mythology and Gods in modern times. After the huge success with his stories he now lives in Boston, Massachusetts, where his most recent books takes place.
To be considered a decorated author, you need millions of books sold, and countless awards and honors. Therefore, Rick is greatly considered this. Not only does he have one award, he has more than six! He was the author of the year for “The Lost Hero,” the fifth to sixth grade book of the year, “The Red Pyramid,” and more. His books have also made it into the top twenty list of number of books sold that year, numerous times. As a father of two and an author of many books, you begin to wonder...how does he have time to write all of these books and get all of these awards? The answer is, he doesn’t. He had to quit his job as a teacher and became a full-time author. Ultimately, Rick is a dedicated and decorated author that has sold millions of books and has captured the hearts of many people young and old.
