Ginzberg rocks out with POUND By Colette Lippman '17 & Sophie Driscoll '19

Students of Samantha Ginzberg may know her as an engaging, skilled and enthusiastic English teacher. What her students may not know is that, outside of the classroom, Ginzberg can often be found motivating a different crowd at her POUND classes at Joyride Westport.

Ginzberg teaches POUND classes at Joyride Westport at 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

POUND is a nontraditional, full-body workout. "You have drumsticks in your hand and you are rocking out to really upbeat fun music," Ginzberg said. "You're just working your body in all kinds of rigorous ways, but you're doing it in a way that's low-impact. You're [...] banging those drumsticks on the floor and making a lot of noise, having fun while you work out."

Ginzberg warmed up before class.

Because Ginzberg has a background in dance, she said she has always gravitated towards workouts that make her feel as though she is dancing. She "fell in love with POUND" after taking her first class.

Ginzberg is certified to teach POUND classes.

Ginzberg notes that there are some similarities between teaching English class and teaching POUND. "I think I can definitely take some of what I do on a daily basis in the classroom with motivating people and targeting specific people's needs and then helping them to grow to their best potential," she said of teaching POUND.

"POUND is a rockout workout," Ginzberg said.

In addition to teaching POUND twice a week at Joyride, Ginzberg will be offering POUND workshops for students every day of midterm exams as part of the school's wellness initiative. "I would love to see Staples students and the whole Westport community come try out a class," she said.
