Book Club News
From Mrs. Scomillio and Mrs. Yurick --- Our Book Club meetings have been packed with fun and lots of reading so far. The Book Club meetings for this month are Thursdays, December 7th & December 14th. Please remember that students must be picked up at 4:45 pm. If you are unable to make arrangements for your child to be picked up at that time, they may not attend Book Club that day. Thank you.
As we kick off the holiday season, the Asa Packer PTA would like to wish all our Asa families much health and happiness!
The weather may be getting colder, but the Asa Packer PTA is just getting warmed up, organizing some great activities and fundraisers for our school community. Students and parents alike got to show off their smarts (and dance skills!) at The Brain Show. At the Donuts with Dad event, students were also able to share breakfast treats with the important men in their lives. Thanks for supporting our Sky Zone, Holiday Flower, and Five Below fundraisers, and as always, thanks to all the volunteers who helped make these and all our events a great success!
This time of year gets busy for all of us, so mark your calendars for these upcoming events:
Dec 7th and 8th – Annual Holiday Shop. Skip the crowds and mall traffic - let your little shoppers purchase gifts for everyone on their holiday list at the Holiday Shop.
Dec 21st - Holiday Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. If you are able to provide a delicious soup in appreciation of our wonderful teachers, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com for more details.
Jan 9th – Next PTA meeting at 6 pm. Dr. Joseph Roy will visit Asa Packer during this meeting. All parents are encouraged to attend.
Keep informed of upcoming events and opportunities to get involved in the Asa Packer PTA. “Like” our Facebook Page, follow us on Twitter (@AsaPackerPTA), and visit our website (http://asapackerpta.digitalpto.com). The Asa Packer PTA appreciates the time and talent given by our wonderful volunteers. Have a great holiday season!

On Friday, November 3, 2017, Asa Packer had the Brain Show live in the gym! Many students participated in the games. There were three podiums, where teams of well-educated students were asked trivia questions with a fun twist! There were assorted question categories, like sports, math, science, and other various school subjects. To keep their points, the teams had to dance, to the correct choreography of the specific song that was playing. When a team won with 300 points, they got a medallion! After the students got to play, Mr. Horvath, some of the staff and members of Asa Packer’s PTA even got to experience this very fun show! That night, parents and families could come to participate in the Brain Show, too! Thanks to everyone who helped get the Brain Show team to come and visit us here at Asa.
4th grade harrisburg field trip
By: Leyna J.
In November, our 4th graders got the chance to go on yet another field trip! They went to Harrisburg to tour the capitol building and visit a museum. It was a fun trip, and most students enjoyed every part of it, even the bus ride! We learned a lot too. I bet you have no idea how much the capitol building costs. Well, we learned there isn’t an answer. It’s so unique that they won’t put a price on it. If you’re in 4th or 5th grade, I hope you loved it, and if you’re younger, I hope you’re excited!

The Penn State 4H program helped teach 4th grade about embryos and the chick hatching process. The entire school was able to help rotate the eggs and visit with them after they had hatched!
Donuts with dads
By: Mckinzie L. and Addison G.
Donuts with dad is a fun Asa Packer tradition that almost all students enjoy. And who can blame them? It is SO fun to come to school-before the bell! Even better, it's with your dad! It is a fun time to come to school, eat some sweet treats with your dad, and hang with school friends! All the Dads can hang out too! Many students said they really enjoy this special morning at school. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

We are well into the 2nd quarter already! It was a pleasure seeing so many of you at conferences this month. As always if you should have academic or social concerns about your child, please reach out to me either at firstname.lastname@example.org or 610-865-0660.
During November, Ms. Birster’s guidance lessons were about bullying for the 5th graders. They heard the story Weird! By Erin Frankel. Fourth graders are learning about thankfulness and compassion in Those Shoes by Mary Beth Boeltts. The third grade learned about standing up for your friends and being kind through the story One by Kathryn Otoshi. In second grade, Ms. Birster read Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving, and students wrote about what they were thankful for. Feelings were the topic in 1st grade. Students learned about their different feelings in the book, The Way I Feel, by Janan Cain. Kindergarten is mastering keeping hands to self with a video by the Wondergrove Kids. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children everyday!

Veterans’ Day was on November 11th, 2017. Veterans day is a day when people celebrate those who have served in the military. Students’ families came to our school to talk about their experience in the military. On Friday, November 10th, we had an assembly to honor the veterans that are a part of our school community. Every student held up flags and we sang patriotic songs for all of the guests. Also, 5th grade played their instruments. We saw some of our teachers and families in a slideshow that was created to honor the veterans Asa Packer students know. It was a great assembly that taught us a lot. Thank you to all of our veterans!
