April Update from Pastor Kris

Saints of Shawnee Alliance Church,
Whether you joined us in person or online I know you shared the excitement for our transformative Holy Week and Easter Sunday! It has been a joy to worship alongside you as we seek life transformation and Gospel impact together!
As we approach several important moments as a community of faith including baptisms, child dedication, and welcoming new members, I continue to thank God for leading Shawnee Alliance into a blessed place to impact our community.
Blessings, Kris

Have you been thinking about getting more involved and serving... but don't know where to start?

There are many opportunities to get more involved by serving together! On Sundays, maybe you'd like to sing on the worship team, pray for our pastors and services with our prayer team, or help make coffee for our guests. Maybe you'd rather serve at a specific event, like Upward, Trunk-N-Treat, or Family Fun Night. In any case, our staff would love to connect you in serving at Shawnee Alliance or in the community in a way that uses your gifts, talents and passions! You can start by filling out a volunteer form at shawneealliance.com/volunteer and we will be glad to help you connect with a ministry that fits well!

For some upcoming event volunteer opportunities, check out Centershot and Beulah on the Road below!

Another way to get more involved is to join community through our Small Groups Ministry! Visit shawneealliance.com/groups and click Adult Groups, or use the Groups tab on the Church Center app to get started! You can use our Group Types and Filters to find the right group for you! A few of our "Everybody Welcome" Wednesday Night Groups are still meeting (Bible Institute, Grief Share, & Iron Sharpens Iron Men's Group), as well as "Family Life" Middle School Youth Group. "In-Home" and "Sports & Exercise Groups" are a great way to share life together while studying Scripture or playing volleyball! "Serving Groups" like Hands-On Ministry and Our Daily Bread allow you to get to know others while serving together.

Ministry Highlights

Leadership Academy

Shawnee Alliance is dedicated to developing future pastors and church leaders. We believe that experiencing ministry first-hand in a healthy church environment is vital to the ministry preparation process. The Church Leadership Academy focuses on creating intentional experiences through directed internships. Interns will experience the joys and frustrations of ministry alongside experienced pastors who have launched many into ministry.

Our summer internship runs from June 1-August 10. To learn more or submit an application, please visit shawneealliance.com/leadership-academy by May 15.

Community Cash Grocery Receipts

Save those receipts! The church can redeem your grocery receipts from Chief and Community Markets for community cash!

Proceeds will be used for missions. Just drop them in the gray boxes in the Activity Center or Sanctuary, in the box outside the church office, or bring them in during office hours (Mon-Thurs 9am-4pm).

If you have any questions, please contact Sheila Keller at sheila@shawneealliance.com.

Centershot Volunteers Needed!

Our Centershot Archery ministry for 4th-12th graders is growing and we're looking for volunteers! Centershot focuses on learning about both archery and Jesus Christ, and meets for 8 week sessions, one starting in September and one that starts in March. Prior archery experience is not required. If you're interested in volunteering, or would like more information, please mark your Centershot volunteer interest on your connect card or contact the office at 419-991-6546. Thank you!

Life Transformation Tools

Missions: What is my Part?

We know we are called to show Jesus' love to others (John 13:34-35) and spread the Gospel (Matt. 28:19-20), but how can we still follow God's call in our regular, busy every day lives? How can we be the people who GO and DO while still transporting kids to school and sports, working full-time jobs, taking care of the house and doing the grocery shopping?

Missions is not just something missionaries do far away from the place we call home. God has called each of us, in our own way, to step out in faith and be active in bringing His Kingdom here on earth. What's exciting is, there are a variety of opportunities, short term or long, near and far!

Missions: Right Where You Are

There are exciting ways to partner with already established missionary ministries without leaving your home! Our missionaries around the world rely on our prayer and financial support. (There are giving opportunities through Shawnee Alliance by check or giving online.) Many missionaries also love to receive emails and send out regular newsletters to those who support them (for more info, contact missions@shawneealliance.com). You can partner with missionaries and make a difference in people's lives right where you are!

Look for more information in the Activity Center Lobby on Sunday, May 16!

Compassion International is a child-advocacy ministry pairing compassionate people with children living in extreme poverty to release the children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty. Compassion helps children all over the world, but pairs you with a specific child to allow you to communicate personally and leave a lasting impact. A sponsor is able to write to their child and the child can write back. Whether you choose to Sponsor, Donate, Pray, or Volunteer at Compassion events, you can partner with a Christ-centered ministry to make a difference. They also have other ministries supporting Mothers and Babies, Medical Assistance, and Disaster Relief. For more information, visit www.compassion.com!

Missions: Just a Short Drive Away

We can make an impact for Jesus right in Ohio! A two-hour drive brings us an opportunity to participate in the behind-the-scenes work that helps Beulah Beach reach more people with the Gospel!

Beulah Beach is a year-round camp and retreat center that focuses on engaging guests to encounter Christ. They host many events throughout the year for children and families and have been a big part of God's transforming work in their lives! Each year, Shawnee Alliance sends a team on a missions work trip to participate in a variety of projects to help Beulah Beach get ready for their summer activities and ultimately reach families for Jesus! Consider taking a few days from your normal routine to join a great team of volunteers as we take in the beautiful view of Lake Erie and serve by cleaning, landscaping, carpentry, painting and any other tasks they have for us! The trip dates are May 17-21, 2021 and you can volunteer for any day or the full week. Cost is just $10/day for lodging and meals. Please contact Nancy Mertz at sac.bbeach@yahoo.com by May 9 if you're interested or have any questions!

Missions: Short-Term Trip Opportunities

As a part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, we don't just financially support our missionaries from afar. People from our own church have stepped up to answer God's call to be a part of short-term missions work, whether traveling a few states or crossing the Atlantic. Watch Calvin's video (recorded early 2019) to hear more about why short-term missions trips are part of our life transformation stories and a big part of who we are at Shawnee Alliance Church!

Possible missions opportunities over the next year include a Mission Trip to Providence, Rhode Island; Youth Culture Camp; and a new international mission site being established in Guinea, West Africa. For more information on upcoming mission trips or any inquiries, please email missions@shawneealliance.com

Prayer Ministry Opportunities

National Day of Prayer - May 6, 2021

Let's pray together for our nation! "Lord, pour out your Love, Life and Liberty," 2 Cor. 3:17.

Allen County's observance of the National Day of Prayer is May 6 from 11:45am-1pm. You can participate in-person at the UNOH Event Center on Cable Rd, listen on WTGN, or view live on WTLW TV44 (12-1pm). "Pray for America" brochures are available in our church lobbies. For more information, visit shawneealliance.com/events.

31 Days of Prayer for America

You can download the 31 Days of Prayer for America calendar and see other prayer ministry opportunities at shawneealliance.com/prayer.

Bible Reading Plan

Bring transformation to your life by reading your Bible! You will get to know Jesus on a deeper level and learn wisdom for your everyday choices. You can find a free Bible in any of our church lobbies. Please feel free to take one when you're with us at church on Sunday or download the YouVersion app on your phone. Use this simple SOAP format to guide your interaction with God's Word:

  • Scripture. Take your time reading each chapter and allow God to speak to you.
  • Observation. What do you see God doing in the Scripture? What is God saying to you?
  • Application. Ask yourself how you can apply this to your life right now.
  • Prayer. Communicate with God and ask Him to help you apply this to your life.

Try it out this week! Add a chapter from Proverbs every day to the below plan. (This list is also posted every Sunday on social media.)
