WOK Badge: Language

Wednesday 22 February 2017 After Class

So I believe that the group that I am with will be capable to accomplish the task that we have at hand. I have Mack: who works hard, Thomas: who I know from previous classes and Duc: I don't know him personally, but I trust he will work hard to get the work done that is needed to be done. We are doing the WOK for Language. I don't know what we can do now but I believe that we'll be able to accomplish it if we put our minds to it.

We started the day off by getting into our groups. We took the quiz, which I passed with a 80%, I missed one of the questions that had two answers and only put one. Other than that the quiz was quite easy. While waiting for the rest of my group to pass the retake, Mack and I tried to formulate our question based on the Textbook and TOK Badges Documents. We haven't gotten anywhere but we definitely want to talk about the flaws in Language and how this affects our world.

Creativity: The infinite possibilities that are possible through Language

Open-Ended: There are many ways of interpreting the same sentence.

Rule Governed: There are simple understandings that are needed for people to understand each other.

Friday 25 February 2017 Before Class

Our group has some progress in our project and this is our last day to complete it. I have not lost faith in my group members, I feel that they are all capable of doing good work. The problem is that we can not agree on what we all want to do. We're all proud about our ideas and believe that our ideas are the most important. Though this back and forth is good for planning, we're not actually progressing and making anything.

But it has been a problem that I could not work with them personally, as I had to be with my previous group and finish the WOK 2, Memory. I hope that now that I've finished that, that I can do my share of the work and complete the project in a timely fashion.

What did you learn?

I learned, the same as in other groups that everyone needs to do their work to accomplish a project. I can not piggyback off of other people's work to accomplish my goals. This leads to chaos and disorder. As this doesn't aid my team in any way and prevents me from improving as a person and becoming better.

Tuesday 8 March 2017 After Presentation

I believe that we did not do well at all and I believe that we will have to redo our whole presentation as it is was quite literally garbage. We were all not prepared and we could not present anything properly. I believe that I will need to participate more and take a role as leader to finish this project. Mack is leaving next week for England, so we will have to present after spring break, as this is the only actual time that we will all be able to present.

This should not be discouraged by this as we should take it as a learning opportunity to improve.

Friday 24 March 2017 Finally Done

WE PASSED!!! I am so happy. We are done.

I can't believe it took us this long to finally be done. As a learning opportunity it was an arduous one.

What did I get out of this whole experience?

That I should work more with Mr. Morrison to accomplish the goals at hand and to become a more competent TOK student. This is because it is his job to teach me and my job to take the knowledge he is giving me and to transform it. Mr. Morrison is here to help me. So I should have utilized that more.

I'm just so happy that we are done.

This helps with insight on the world of how language developed and how it affects us today. Very informative.
