What you will study

What you will study in your first year

In your first year you will study; concept and script, visual production techniques- studio and location, sound design and audio production, interactive-design and construction, critical culture-one, creative analysis and development. Your first year is to focus on concept and develomemt and to introduce you into script writing video/audio sound design and interactive design. This is balanced with theory to help understand what the media industry is all about. Also the first year is to focus on and choose what your favourite area in media production is.

What you will study in your second year

In your second year you will study; visual production techniques- short fiction, sound design and audio production-2, interactive-storytelling, client brief- professional practice, critical culture- two and concept and script development. Your second year is to focus and specialise further in media production by developing your skills in your favourite area of production. You will also begin to lear about the media industry through working on 'live' external client briefs.

In-between your second and final year of the course, there is great opportunity for students to undertake a whole year of valuable work experience to give you more of an opportunity for future employment prospects.

What you will study in your final year

In your final year you will study;cultural content-dissertation,major media project- development package, major media project- production and professional freelance practice. Your final year is to focus on the opportunity to set up production teams to complete your major projects. Your project will be based on your specific area of interest. the major project will provide the research basis for your approach and involvement.

Entry requirements

In the interview you will ned to provide a portfolio with relevant work provided. The interview will last up to 30 minutes. The things you could be asked about include art/graphic work, photography, videos, creative/script writing, radio or web design.

Typical A-Level offer

Bcc to inclue a relevant subject to media they can include Art, Drama, English, Performing arts, Visual arts, Theatre, Welsh, Media Studies or Photography.

Typical Welsh Bacc Offer

Grade C and BC at A Level to incude a relevant subject such as Art, Drama, English, Performing Arts., Visual Arts, Theatre, Welsh, Media Studies or Photography.

Typical BTEC Offer

BTEC Extended Diploma Distinction Merit Merit in a relevant subject.

Typical IB Offer

29 points to include 16 points at Higher Level to include a relevant higher subject at grade 5.

Typical access to HE Offer

60 credits overall to include 45 level 3 credits equating to 12 distinctions, 18 Merits and 15 passes in a relevant subject.

Additional requirements

GCSEs: the university normally requires a minimum 5 GCSEs including Mathematics and English at grade C or above, or their equivalent but consideration is given to individual circumstances.

Fees and Funding

All fees are per year. Once you have started you course all fees will remain the same for the upcoming years of your study.
