My Ancestors’ Music By The Genealogy Kids

Did you ever wonder what kind of music your ancestors listened to? Long ago, there were no radios, no headphones or devices to plug them into, no music streaming services, no CDs, tapes, or even record players. If you wanted music, you had to make your own. Anyone could use their own voice to sing music, but different countries and cultures had unique instruments and music styles.

To learn more about our ancestors’ music, we searched YouTube for traditional music from the countries represented on our family tree. Here’s what we came up with:

Which countries are your ancestors from? Can you find clips of traditional music from each of those countries. Try this: make a game out of it! Play the clips one by one and see if the rest of the family can guess the country.
