Your 9 favorite photo galleries of 2017 Cute animals, scary storms and tragic fires

Produced by Austin Fast for WCPO.com

WCPO photographers were "On Your Side" snapping pictures of the Tri-State’s biggest events all year long. Here are the nine most popular photo galleries of the year, as determined by how many times you viewed them on WCPO.com.

1. FIONA!

It was no contest. Even individual photos from our gallery of the Cincinnati Zoo's prematurely born hippopotamus, Fiona, exponentially eclipsed the popularity of entire galleries on other topics from 2017.

2. In like a lion

The month of March roared into the Tri-State, as five tornadoes tore through the region in one crazy night. Wicked winds wreaked havoc across Northern Kentucky, through Cincinnati, Amelia and Anderson Township and out east into Highland County.

3. Zoo baby-mania!

You didn't just obsess over Fiona. The Cincinnati Zoo's 6-year-old Australian shepherd, Blakely, nannied three rare Malayan tiger cubs born on Feb. 3, cheetah cubs, a bat-eared fox and many other zoo babies throughout the year.

4. Beverly Hills burns

Perched on a hill in Southgate, Kentucky, the Beverly Hills Supper Club ruled the roost through the 1970s. We looked back on the 40th anniversary of this tragic fire that killed 165 people when it burned to the ground on May 28, 1977.

5. April showers

Another gnarly night of storms on Sunday, April 16, swept flash floods and hail back across Greater Cincinnati.

6. Retail bust

Despite an amazing yearlong surge on the stock market, 18 major retailers shuttered hundreds of stores across the country. Their closure made for some great one-time sales, but left vacant storefronts in their wake.

7. FIONA! (pt. 2)

If you thought just one Fiona gallery would make our top 9, you don't know Fiona's social media star power. You loved watching this chunky growing hippo (and her numerous neck rolls) venture outside to explore the pool at the Cincinnati Zoo.

8. Loveland up in flames

Dozens of firefighters from several agencies battled a massive fire in historic downtown Loveland on May 28 (the 40th anniversary of the tragic Beverly Hills Supper Club fire). Several apartments were gutted, and the street-level businesses below were damaged.

9. Celebrating pride

LGBTQ+ supporters wound their way down Vine Street and through Fountain Square to Sawyer Point for the 44th annual Cincinnati Pride Festival on June 24 with all sorts of colorful costumes and festive dance moves.
