Vocabulary: greed, factory, smog, extinct, lurk, deforestation, mighty, pollute, dank
Vocabulary activity: Since Dr. Seuss provides a lot of made-up and unique terms, have the students do a Think-Pair-Share where they collaborate and think of the meaning of the new words (Examples: thneeds, Once-ler, gruvvulous, snergelly, etc.)
Comprehension Activity: "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" chart. Ask the students to keep an eye out on tips the Lorax gives on how to protect the Earth (Example: under Reuse the students could write that they can use their lunch boxes/bags again)
Writing
Opinion Writing: Imagine that you are a Truffula Tree. Write to the Once-ler, explaining how you feel and giving details on why you are important for the Earth

Narrative Writing: How would you assist the Lorax in defeating the Once-ler and helping the Earth?
Expository Writing: Have the students create a brochure on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Use the notes they made from the chart under comprehension activities
Speaking
Have students get into groups and create a poster on why it is important to protect our Earth. Have all groups present their poster.
