Pendergast District Teacher Rewarded for Perfect Attendance with New Car Canyon breeze p.e. teacher samantha neely drives off in new chevrolet sonic

The Pendergast Elementary School District knows the connection between attendance and learning for students and staff members. Students are rewarded with assemblies and certificates for perfect attendance and in PESD, staff is also! When Pendergast Superintendent Dr. Lily Matos DeBlieux arrived three years ago, one of her goals with support from the Governing Board was to increase attendance and reward it for classified and certified staff. Samantha Neely, the winner of the Chevy Sonic, was beaming with pride and joy, “I'm lucky that our school district rewards staff for perfect attendance. I love coming to work everyday at my school, and I am fortunate that as a PE teacher, I get to be with all grade levels and teach them all about being healthy.”

Board member Susan Serin shared her excitement at the recognition event held on May 27, 2017, the last day of school. “The sixty-seven eligible employees and their colleagues were treated to food, fun and the anticipation of winning a car or a vacation in Rocky Pointe, Mexico and $1,000 cash, courtesy of the Pendergast Education Foundation. It is fantastic that our people are so loyal and each day they come to work and make a difference with our kids.”

The prizes were made possible through the generosity and fundraising efforts of the Pendergast Foundation and its members who collaborated with Sands Chevrolet. Angelo Rossetti was happy to be part of the event and shared, “As a member of the PESD Foundation and former teacher, anything we can do to reward teachers for the work they do is a very positive thing. Teachers and support staff are the backbone of the school system and everyone plays a vital role in achieving success.”

Alan Ray, Fleet and Commercial Sales Manager with Sands Chevrolet in Glendale was at the event to hand over the keys to Samantha. According to Alan, “Sands Chevrolet has been a member of the community for eighty-four years and Buzz Sands, and Jerry Moore, personally like to partner and participate in as many community events as possible. This is a truly wonderful way to recognize deserving teachers and staff.”
