Art And the spiritual life

In November 2015 a few 'friends' came together to explore how the arts influence their spiritual life and vis-a-vee.

With help from John Reeves at the Croydon Clocktower an Art exhibition was born and came to be known as The Heart of Art.

Through the 1980's and early 1990's the Buddhist Centre Croydon and the vegetarian cafe Hockneys became synonymous with the arts.

Many well known artists would visit offering perspectives on art in general and their particular inspirations.

One of the six distinctive emphasis of the Triratna Buddhist Community is that the arts offer a valuable support to the spiritual life.

Now with a community numbering in their thousands 'The Arts' in all there forms remain a key element of their Buddhist lives. Many members support themselves through their art or share inspiration through art based retreats such as 'Wolf at the door' poetry retreats and 'Opening windows' art retreats.
