Antonio Torres Jurrado Inventor of Modern Spanish Acoustic Guitar

Torres invented the modern acoustic guitar one day just by trying to improve it's sound quality and volume just by adjusting the sound board, and making the guitars bigger.

Five Facts about Torres

1. He was drafted into the army by the age of 16 before his father managed to relieve him from service under the false pretext of him being medically unfit.

2. Antonio was born in La Canada de San Urbano, Almeria

3. It is believed, but not verified, that Antonio started learning the art of crafting guitars From Jose Pernas, and returned to Seville and opened a shop where he created his own guitars.

4. Torres met Fransisco Tarrega, who was at age 17, who went to Seville form Barcelona to get a Torres guitar. Once Torres heard him play, he gave Tarrega a guitar he made for himself many years again.

5. He died in November 1892 of “acute intestinal catarrh”
