The Sweetest Fig A CVA project by Cooper Thomas

SUMMARY: Monsieur Bibot wanted his dreams to come true, he wanted to be the richest man on earth. The night he ate one of two special figs that was supposed to make his dreams come true he did dream and the next day his dreams came true...but not in the way he expected. So, Bibot spent a few weeks reading about hypnotism and repeating the line,’’ Bibot is the richest man on earth.” Then he got ready to eat the second fig...

This is a picture of a pile of French francs (try saying "French francs" five times fast)

CHARACTER SKETCH #1: Monsieur Bibot is a greedy man. I know this because when he realizes that the two figs that an old woman patient gave him made his dreams come true, he then tries to hypnotize himself to dream about being the richest man in the world. His plan is to eat the second fig, dream about being the richest man in the world and the next day wake up as the richest man in the world. This is why he is greedy.

"REALLY?!?! FIGS?!?! I WANT FRANCS!"

CHARACTER SKETCH #2: Bibot is a fussy man. I know this because in the text it says “Monsieur Bibot, the dentist, was a very fussy man. He kept his small apartment as neat and clean as his office. If his dog, Marcel, jumped on the furniture, he was sure to teach him a lesson.’’ That is why Bibot is a very fussy man.

"Don't you dare jump on MY furniture in THIS house"

SETTING SKETCH: In the story The Sweetest Fig, the setting of the story takes place in the Spring or Summer before 2002 in Paris, France. It takes place before 2002 because in the text it says that they were still using francs. They stopped using francs (started to use euros) around January 1, 2002.* It takes place in Spring or Summer. In the text it says that Monsieur Bibot took Marcel for a walk and in the pictures I can see he isn't wearing warm clothes. For this reason it can’t be Fall and there isn’t any snow on the ground so it can’t be Winter. You usually go for walks around Summer or Spring. That is why it takes place in Spring or Summer. It takes place in Paris because in the text it mentions the Eiffel Tower. I know that the Eiffel Tower is in Paris. Also, I know that the book takes place in Paris is because in the text it says, "All eyes of Paris were fixed on the Eiffel Tower, which slowly drooped over as if it was made of soft rubber." That is why it takes place in Paris.

I never knew the Eiffel Tower was made of rubber!

THEME: I think the theme of the story The Sweetest Fig is perseverance. I think this because in the text it says that Bibot got two Figs from one of his patients (he is a dentist). When he found out that his patient, an old woman, was right about the two figs being magic he tried to hypnotize himself to have a certain dream so that after eating the fig, he would have that dream and it would come true because of the magical figs. That means he kept trying even when things didn’t work out at first. This is one example of perseverance. That is why I think the theme of the story The Sweetest Fig is perseverance. This theme relates to my own life because sometimes I have to persevere through new and harder piano songs.

BOOK REVIEW: Do you want to read The Sweetest Fig? Then you are in the right place! I liked this book because it is funny, it is made up, and the book has great pictures. First of all, I liked the book because the book is funny. For example: in the text it says, "As he walked along the sidewalk, Bibot could not help people noticing him. 'They are admiring my suit,' he thought. But when Bibot saw his reflection in the window of a cafe, he stopped in horror. He was dressed only in his underwear.’’ This is funny because you don’t usually see somebody in their underwear. That is why the book is funny. Second of all, I liked the book because the book is made up. I know it is made up because in the text it says that Bibot is a dentist and one of his patients (an old lady) gives him two figs and she says that they will make his dreams come true. This is made up because there is no such thing as food that makes your dreams come true. That is why the book is made up. Finally, I liked the book because it has great pictures. Chris Van Allsburg devotes most of the room on all of the pages to drawings, rather than words. This is so the reader can understand more of what is going on. This is good for the reader so he or she can understand the book better. That is why the book has great pictures. That is why I liked the book The Sweetest Fig because it is made up, it has great pictures, and it has great pictures.

I don't think this fashion trend is going to catch on... but read the book to see for yourself!

Thank you for listening (and watching) my project. I hope you liked it!
