Nina Romans Graphic & web Designer

Hey there! My name is Nina Romans. I am a multidisciplinary designer, based in sunny Los Angeles. I am specializing in graphic design, illustration, brand design and web design.

Los Angeles, CA

I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I started my first oil painting lessons at the age of six with a French artist named Bernard Beneito in his studio above a dry cleaner. This began my interest in fine art. It wasn't until college that I started to get into design on the computer with Adobe Creative Cloud. I attended the University of California, Los Angeles where I majored in Design | Media Arts. Go Bruins! I also studied abroad in London at Central Saint Martin - University of Arts London where I was first introduced to web design.

I think much of my strength as a designer has come from jumping into the workforce at such a young age. It is so valuable to apply what you are learning to real world projects and learn from the obstacles you face and mistakes you make along the way. During college, I worked at two different brand & marketing agencies in Los Angeles. I worked at our school newspaper, The Daily Bruin, designing ads for the ad team. And I worked with a number of start-ups apps and companies in their first years to help them grow through the college market. I have been working as a freelance designer for 3 years now and have had the pleasure of collaborating and working with a variety of clients across many industries.

As you saw in the video, Adobe XD helps me tremendously when it comes to web design. It saves me so much time, both when working with my client and working with the developers. One of the biggest challenges of freelance design is helping your client imagine the designs as a final product without having the final product to show them. XD met this challenge and made it 100 times easier to sell my client on my designs for her website since she could view them as a functioning prototype.

My work is constantly evolving thanks to Adobe Creative Cloud and the new mediums and products they are always coming out with for me to explore. If I had two pieces of advice for young designers, they would be: (1) explore as many of the emerging applications and products as you can while you have the free time (& the student discounts), and (2) put your work out into the world (even if people say you are too young). Expanding your skillsets, pushing through obstacles and learning from your mistakes will only make you a better designer.

Ultimately, I design in hopes of making a memorable and positive impacts on people's lives and the world around us. In my free time I enjoy traveling, hiking, skiing and developing my very amateur cooking skills. Feel free to reach out to me via email ninaromans@gmail.com.
