Ginger cookies: a delicious holiday treat By: Meg enquist '23

Ginger cookies are the perfect gift for friends and family during the holiday season. These festive cookies are easy to make and satisfy all because of the crispy exterior and soft interior.

  • One and a half cups shortening (crisco)
  • Two cups sugar
  • Two eggs
  • Half a cup molasses
  • Four teaspoons baking soda
  • Two teaspoons ginger
  • Two teaspoons ground cloves
  • Two teaspoons cinnamon
  • One teaspoon salt

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.

In a mixer or bowl, combine the shortening, eggs, sugar, salt and baking soda.

After the ingredients from the previous step have fully combined, begin to slowly pour the molasses into the mixture.

Next add all the seasonings: ginger, ground cloves and cinnamon.

Finally, pour the flour into the mixture and combine until the dough is formed.

Use your hands to form balls of dough with an approximate diameter of an inch. Then, roll these balls in a bowl of sugar so that the exterior of each is fully covered. Next, evenly spread a dozen balls out onto a cookie sheet.

Place the cookie sheets into the oven and bake for nine minutes.

Let the ginger cookies cool for two minutes before transferring them to a brown paper bag which helps to absorb the shortening.
