Having Your Own Room is Best By: Casey Groff

What some people don’t know is that having your own room is best, but I have learned that it is important. It is important because you can adjust the light way you want it, your room can be the color you want it and most of all, it provides privacy.

One reason having your own room is best is because you can adjust the lighting the way you like it. One example of this is at night, my sister Alexa likes the room almost completely bright. So one night I could see everything in the room, and I couldn’t sleep! I yelled at her, but she didn’t care. So this made me wish I had my own room so I could sleep. Also, if you are not allowed out of your room until a certain time and you wake up early ,you can put on the lights if you have your own room and read while you wait. If you share a room you can’t turn on the lights until your sibling is up. This is very inconvenient. In addition if it is a rainy day and you want to dim the lights and curl up in bed to read, you would have to make an agreement with your sibling on the dimness or brightness of the room if you share a room. It would be much better to have your own room so you can have it the way you like it.

Another reason having your own room is best is that your room can be the color you want it. For example one day I came home from Home Depot, with paint chips. I exclaimed to Alexa that one of the paint chips was the color I wanted our room. The color I wanted was turquoise, but Alexa wanted midnight blue. She said she would not paint our room unless it was midnight blue. Midnight blue did not even match our comforters! We still can’t agree on a color, so it’s still pink . When you share a room the people sharing it would have to agree on a color. If you have your own room it could be the color you want it.

One last reason having your own room is best because it provides privacy. One example of this is one day I was planning a Christmas surprise. My sister wanted to come in. I had to say “no” because she is not good at keeping secrets. Also in the article “The Importance of a Child’s Bedroom Sanctuary” on Room to Grow.com. The author wrote that having your own room provides privacy which is important as children get older. Another fact the article states is that if you don’t share a room you can keep special things away from destructive siblings. In addition another fact the article states is that having your own room is best because it gives you a good place to recharge, read, and relax.

Having your own room is important because you can adjust the lights the way you want it, your room could be the color you want it and most importantly, it provides privacy. Having your own room has many privileges that you don’t experience when you share it with your siblings.
