During the 2016 presidential race, Kelly was subjected to a comment from Donald Trump about "blood coming out of her wherever" in response to her treatment of him as a moderator during an August 2015 Republican debate.

Trump was not happy with Kelly's question and tweeted his displeasure. He then went on CNN Tonight to complain about the questions regarding Trump's treatment of women.

“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever,” he said.

In October, she was accused by colleague Sean Hannity of supporting Hillary Clinton, according to Washington Post, after she criticized Trump for going on Hannity's show so much, saying Hannity's show represented a "safe space" for Trump.
