They have settled into year one, learning how to use the different areas of the classroom and were introduced to the music room to have their weekly lesson. We heard the children read and gave them their reading books to take home.

REMINDER: Please ensure your child brings their reading book in every day.PE will be on a Wednesday. We are collecting kits ready to start after half term.

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2, the children have settled in well and have had a productive week. This week we have begun our topic on Southend, our local area. We have been counting in tens in our maths lessons. Thank you to all of the children who are bringing their reading books every day.

REMINDER: Please remember to bring in a water bottle every day. PE is on Tuesday, PE kits need to be in school. Reading books should be in every day.

Year 3

Year 3 have had a great first week back. They have settled in well and have already got stuck into learning all about our history topic of the Stone Age. In maths we have been exploring place value, in science we have been investigating light and in P.E we have been building our teamwork skills.

Year 4

Year 4 have had a great first week! All the children have worked extremely hard and we are very impressed. We have started to learn about our new topic for this term which is the Anglo Saxons. Well done to the children who have read every day at home!

REMINDER: Please ensure that PE kits are back in school. We have PE on a Monday and Wednesday.

Year 5

It’s been a great start to Year 5 in Swordfish and Seaturtle classes. This week we have revisited place value and comparing numbers in maths and have been planning and writing our own verse for the poem Dragon Song, using personification. In History we have investigated timelines and in PE we are trying to improve our stamina and speed.

REMINDER:

  • PE is on Monday and Thursday – please ensure your child has a PE kit, including trainers or plimsolls.
  • Reading at home as often as possible is very important and reading records should be brought to school daily.
  • Please bring a refillable water bottle in for use in class.

Year 6

We have had a wonderful return to school, with lots of imagination flowing in English – where year 6 tackled poetry. We created our own versions of personification and metaphor poetry using an owl as a guide! In maths, we have been reading and writing large numbers and consolidating our understanding of place value. We started our town planning unit in geography and felt the flow of electrical circuits in science.

REMINDER:

  • PE – Thursday and Friday. Please ensure you have a suitable kit.
  • Swimming – Friday’s for Stingray (until half term) a letter will be sent about this.
