Trek To Texas

August 20-22, 2017- The remains of the Tropical Storm ravages Puerto Rico. It moves west quickly toward the Yucatan Peninsula along side a low-pressure system in the area.

August 23, 2017- The two convictions form a low pressure that regenerates to the status of Tropical Storm by the time it reaches the Bay of Campeche. The storm moves northwest.

August 24, 2017- The Tropical Storm's rate of intensification increases. It becomes Hurricane Harvey later that day.

August 25, 2017- Harvey reaches category 3 while approaching the Texas coastline and category 4 before making landfall.

Touching Texas

August 26, 2017- The eye of Hurricane Harvey moved over land between San José Island and Rockport Texas in the early hours of the morning. It moves slowly inland before looping back around to the Gulf of Mexico.

"At the time I had thought if it was a really bad storm our gym might take on some water...The last time the campus came close to flooding was 1994." Katherine Persson, President of Lone Star College-Kingwood

August 27, 2017- The Lake Conroe dam is released, spilling more than 79,000 cubic feet per second into the West Fork San Jacinto River.

"Although the center passed well south of the Houston Metro and Golden Triangle (southeastern Texas between Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange) areas, torrential rains fell in these locations near a stationary front on the north and east side of Harvey." -National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

August 28 ,2017- Lone Star College-Kingwood campus floods the gym corner.

August 29, 2017- Harvey reaches its final peak of intensity offshore shortly before reaching Louisiana.

"Extremely heavy rains, however, continued on the north and northwest side of the tropical cyclone, most concentrated then near the Beaumont-Port Arthur area." - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

September 2, 2017- Harvey dissipates over the Tennessee Valley. LSC-Kingwood cleans up the flooded area. Katherine Persson sends Good Day #1 email update to faculty and staff.

September 5, 2017- All LSCS campuses start the 2017 Fall Semester with the exception of LSC-Kingwood.

"Extra curricular Activities really take a back seat in the aftermath of a flooding so student activity was down. There were still students around ( on campus), but nowhere near where we had been before(Harvey)."- Tracey Kamenoff, Director of Student Services

September 25, 2017- Fall classes start at LSC-Kingwood as a 12 week semester with over 50% of the courses being fully online.

May 29, 2018- The 2nd floor of the Administration reopens.

June 1, 2018- The top floor of the library reopens.
