This alphabet is full of tips about understanding funders but here we are looking at the fact that funding organisations are made up of people with all the human behaviours.
They talk to each other – with implications for you. They take their work seriously – designing processes they want you to respect. They are not omniscient – you have to provide evidence. They don’t respond well to rudeness and pushiness from disappointed applicants. They do respond well to applicants who genuinely try to understand them – but don’t have time re-answering FAQs already on their website. They sometimes are able to come out proactively to organisations who have done good work in the past and ask if you can respond when new funds come along. They do sometimes completely change the way that they work in respond to community or economic needs.
