In the Jim Crow laws they had a law where white people could sit in the front of the bus and the black people had to sit in the back of the bus. The black people had a sign that they had to move every time they moved back when a white person would come. If you did not move for a white person you could be touched or even killed.
In the Jim Crow laws they had a school for both the whites and the blacks. The blacks school did not have any desks nor anything to write with. The white kids had desk and stuff to write with and even clothes. The black kid did not have air in their school and the white kids had air and they got everything they wanted.
The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a time that took place during the 1930s. The timing was f the Great Depression was world wide and in most countries it started in 1929 and lasted until the 1930s. In America it started when the stock market crashed. It started to end by 1933 and 13 to 15 million Americans. Another term for The Great Depression was the dust bowl and that is what they called it instead of The Great Depression. The Great Depression was the longest Depression yet. In roll of thunder papa uses the money to pay for the land he does not spend it on food. He wants to keep the land for the kids to have in the future.
Abolishment of slavery
The end of slavey was when people were making laws to end slavery. They started to riot about slavery and they were rioting for so long that they stoped it. The president was also one person that stopped slavery. Slavery back then was a big deal because white people would let the slaves eventually die from doing so much work. President Lincoln said "and I herbly call upon the people so declared to be free to obtain from all violence, unless in necessary defense." In Roll of Thunder a quote of slavery is "“Killed?” we echoed as the fire sputtered and died. “Who’d do that?” I cried. “Not one of them puny Simmses?” (Taylor 199)Excerpt From: Mildred D. Lynching is when you hang people for doing the wrong thing. When people Lynch other people it is from the doing a violent crime. You can get lynched back in the old days for holding hands with a black person. Also you can if you are seen around a black person. In roll of thunder the avereys were going to get lynched by the night men but then papa lit the cotton on fire. An example of people getting lynched in Roll of Thunder is “Heard tell they lynched a boy a few days ago at Crosston."
