Summary
The armies met on July 28, 1864 at Ezra Church, when Hood reached the church Howard's troops were already waiting in the trenches. The confederate army attacked but fell back before the unions improvised work of logs and rails. The rebels were defeated although the managed to stop Howard from reaching the road line.
