Origin- Muhammad began his teachings between 610 A.D to 632 A.D. He started in Mecca and it spread throughout Asia and some parts of India.

Major Beliefs- They believe in a God called Allah or Muhammad. There holy book is the Quran. They believe Muhammad created nature. There main beliefs are also the 5 pillars. The 5 pillars are The Shahadah- sincerely reciting the Muslim profession of faith. Salat- performing ritual prayers in the proper way five times each day. Zakat- paying at alms tax to benefit the poor and needy. Sawn- fasting during the month of Ramadan. Hajj- pilgrimage to Mecca.

Sects- There are 2 different branches to the Islam religion. The Shia and The Sunni. The Shia are the people who believe all rulers should be descends of Muhammed. The Sunni however are the people who believe that the rulers don't have to be descends but just followers of Muhammad. Most people are Sunni

Holidays- Ramadan is a month long holiday where the Islamic people fast while the sun is up. Fasting is avoiding all food and drinks. Another holiday is Muharram which is the Islamic New Year. Also there is Mawild al-Nabi which is the birthday of Muhammad.
