Few TIPS to be Safe in the River

  • Wear a lifejacket
  • Never swim alone
  • Learn to swim
  • Never swim under a raft or dock
  • If the rapid swept you up, make sure to first float your feet to protect your head
  • Wear closed-toe shoes in the water
  • Leave valuables away from the river
  • Be cautious at all times
  • Never consume alcoholic beverages near the water that will impair your actions and behavior
  • Avoid poison ivy leaves along the paths in the Park
Poison Ivy leaves: "Leaves of three -- let them be."

Use the following recommendations to treat a rash:

  • Rinse your skin with soap and lukewarm water
  • Wash your clothing
  • Wash everthing that may have oil on its surface
  • Do not scratch the rash and leave blisters alone!
  • Take short lukewarm water baths
  • Apply calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream to help with the rash
  • Use a wet cloth without any drips of water and apply cool compresses on the rash
  • Use with caution antihistamine pills
  • If the rash is serious, seek medical help by going to the emergency room or calling 911
